Crippled Billy - Homeland

Hey,

As a newbie to this forum, I hope that anyone off you experts reads this post and give their comments. Here it goes !

For the past months I've been busy recording my own band (Crippled Billy), and I've put a lot of effort in the mixing and mastering stuff. The song I post here is called Homeland, and it has everything to do with the love of our hometown and the country we live in (Belgium). It's a pretty heavy rock song, so play it loud !!!!!

Greats,
Dirk.

This was very 80's USA glam rock. I think the overall mix was decent, but I would like to hear more bass and more low end. ha ha, but if you hear my stuff you'd probably say it needs less low end!

Oh and welcome to this wontiferous forum!

Dirk, WOW......once I crawled back up from the floor after the opening note blew me out of my chair ............I really liked the song!!!!! Not the kind of thing I typically listen to, but really appreciate the quality of the playing, recording and mixing. Very good work. Bravo.

Certainly not a style I can listen to for very long without taking muscle-relaxing drugs. That being said, this is the first time I can remember listening to this particular style where I could distinctly understand every single word of it. I feel if you have lyrics, one should be able to understand them. Bravo to you for making them well understood seems rare in many genres. Good mix too.

    Wow,

Thank you all for the replies, now I know I did it the right way. We weren't happy about the mixes of our previous songs at a pro studio, and I did the best I could. In total we recorded 4 songs. Maybe later I'll post another one !

    Thanks al lot !!

    Cheers,
    Dirk.

Great recording, Dirk. I especially liked the guitar sound. You managed to make it all heavy while maintaining some dynamics and nice clear vocals. The great care you've obviously taken has paid off. Keep it up, Crippled Billy definitely has potential!

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

    Thanks Bitflipper,

For the vocals I used the Motown technique, I picked that up somewhere here on the sonar forum . And it keeps the vocals clear and in front of the mix.
I've tried lots of things for the guitar. We double mic'd it for the recording, so I could play around. Eventually I have cut off some bottom and boosted a bit in the higher frequencies, made a lot off difference for the bass guitar. A bit of reverb, and that's it.

And for the potential thing, we hope that there's someone in Belgium who feels the same about us . This kind of music gets not much attention around here...

    Greetz,
    Dirk.
