Two video cards on one computer.

I want to get 4 monitors running on one computer...

does anyone know if it is ok to install my Radeon x300 video card and my GeForce4 MX440 video card on the same computer?

its just a bad idea to have 2 different video drivers on the same computer.

ah, good point and I didn't catch that when I glanced over the OP's email.

Agreed - usually not a good idea to have two different cards that require different drivers - especially not two completely different chipsets.

It may work - but not sure how well.

I've had some trouble (can't remember specifics) when I had a non-nVidia video card with my MX440. I finally bought a 7300 LE to go with it. They use the same driver. All is well now.

What if you had a pair of SLI-capable, dual-head cards? I've read about some gamer setups that head in that direction... you'd be out some serious cash, though.

Two cards can definately be done. Just mixing chipsets (nVidia, ATI, Matrox) will generally result in problems.

it turns out one of my cards wasn't even PCI, so... yeah, that didn't work out.

It will work. I have two Quadro FX3500 cards in my DAW and I can use all four heads.

I want to get 4 monitors running on one computer...

There are some single cards that allow the connection of 4 monitors. For example: Matrox QID series.
