Anyone try the new Emu Proteus pack for Dimension?

Im really excited about this. Always loved Emu modules..

Just wondering. Ive only got Dimension LE, from S7.. What are the sound shaping capabilities, compared to using the set with Dimension Pro?

Not yet... still waiting for it. I'll be doing a review for DigiFreq.

Yeah, I loved the Emu modules too... still have a few... a couple PROformance piano modules and a Proteus/2. And they still work.

It'll be cool to see how well the sounds were translated over to Dimension...

I also have a Proteus 2/XR which I'm selling, and an ESI-2000 sampler with all the Proteus waveforms (which I'm also selling). I might buy the full Proteus pack just to replace these synths.

Yeah - I am trying to decide whether I should update to Pro or check out some of the Proteus sounds. I think this little unit has a lot of potential and I hope to see it develop a following and more third party support (and I think it well could if enough people get to see/hear it). LE sounds great to me. And the concept is so cool. BTW did you check out the Dimension tutorial here on the site? Just some brief examples of what you can do with Pro's editing capabilities.

Congatulations on your purchase. That's gonna keep you busy for a while!

This pack is very nice so far... I still have a lot more sounds to work through, because there are A LOT if you get the full pack.

Dimentia Pro has quite a bit more than LE. It has a bank of three independent equalisers that are settable for type (HIghPass, BP and LP), Freq Q and Gain. Then there is a bank for FX per Element, with about 30 FX available, one at a time (but of course chaining the element to the next will allow up to four in series)

Then it has the Envelope Gens. These affect Filter Cut and Reso, Amp, Pitch. They are multi-noded and you place your own nodes and move them wherever you like. You can have a simple ADSR, or many breakpoints to actually almost make a sequencer of them (as in Rupture but it take more work to get to that stage). These are independently available for each Element. Pretty wild stuff.

    Having said that, try
    http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=192277
to see the sort of thing the EGs will do. It's not mine, but I really like it. Also try
    http://www.braindoc.de/

Same guy. Some really powerful VSTs there, if you are into soundbending. I believe it will be moving to another site soon.

There is also an LFO for each of the Res Cut Amp etc for each Element.

The bottom set of "blanket" output FX are AFAIK the same.

Maybe not, but you can update to Project-5 v2.5 which comes with Dimension LE.

Actually I did update to version 2.5 but dimension LE doen't have really any tweakablity. It would be great if you could use the emu refills in dimension. If not then I will eventually upgrade to dimension pro, it just will take a little longer to upgrade and get the emu pack.

    Here's another question/comment.

I have the emu proteusX thing, whatever it's called that comes with emu keyboards. I converted the programs to sfz for use in Dimension. The issue is that the proteus player makes these sounds come alive, there is a lot of programming in the proteus vsti module that really makes the sounds what they are (z-plane filters etc). Using the sounds in Dimension wasn't even comparable. I suppose I could spend a few hundred hours programming each sound but that misses the point for me...

So can anyone else comment on using the Proteus pack in Dimension vs. proteus X? I guess the proteus pack has taken the emu sounds and some people did all of the dirty work in Dimension to come up with good sound presets, but does it still compare to the emu proteus?

BTW, I really love the sound of the emu proteus, but that plugin is darn unstable...
