dim pro -setting note range of instrument

I was using a tenor sax patch in dim pro and found the range of notes in the track was too great. The lowest note in the track wouldn't play. If I routed the track to a different synth all notes played. I found the Lo-Hi key settings in the main window - these are set 0 to 127.

Does anyone know what else might be limiting the note range?

Thanks everyone

John

    The .sfz file underneath, coupled with the samples that make up the preset.

    For example, here's an excerpt from the Sax Tenor 2v.sfz.
    // f first
    <group>
    trigger=first hivel=106
    <region> sample=414 - F - 001.wav key=44
    <region> sample=414 - F - 002.wav key=45
    <region> sample=414 - F - 003.wav key=46
    ...
    It begins at Ab; one+ octave below middle C.

    If you'd like to extend it downward two more notes, the 'mod' would look like this:
    trigger=first hivel=106
    <region> sample=414 - F - 001.wav lokey=42 hikey=44 pitch_keycenter=44
    <region> sample=414 - F - 002.wav key=45
    <region> sample=414 - F - 003.wav key=46
    ...
    There are a few things to consider here. This particular preset is set up for two ranges of velocity, as well as staccato/legato playing. You'd have to modify the 'key=44' line in each of the four <group> sections. Secondly, you're stretching a single sample to cover more notes, so there's a limit as to how natural this is going to sound.

    Thanks for that.

    I only need one extra semitone, so I'm hoping it should sound OK

    I added the mods as suggested - worked a treat. I've redone the track with the sax part handled by dim pro, it sounds a lot better.

    Thanks again for helping

    I'm glad that you got it all working, John. I've enlarged the default ranges before myself, if a particular project falls outside of the 'natural' range of an instrument. [For example, the sax squeal in "Pick Up The Pieces".] I just save a copy of the original .sfz file, and rename the modification to 'Tenor Sax -Extended'. Re-save the .prog file under another name, and you have both original and alternative.
