mixer under $100
I need it for practice, we have passive speakers, so I guess it needs to be a powered mixer. 4 channels is enough, and I need a stereo output. if it has reverb even better. one thing very important. it needs to be small and lightweight that's all I need. shooting for an old or used one for around $50. I also have some active monitors at home and wondering if I would be able to use it with active speakers.

for under $100 behringer is about the best you're going to get - but the link you posted about is NOT a powered mixer. If 4 channels is enough and you DON'T need a powered mixer, then get a NEW behringer xenyx 802 for $60. if you need powered for less than $100 you're probably going to HAVE to try to find something used and you'd better be careful cause for that price it's probably not worth much.

External power supply is usually talking about ac power or a wal wart type of power supply. The one you linked to doesn't have any internal effects either. It's a small basic mixer...just right for that price..but you'll need a power amp and an effects box to use it the way you want.

lol did you reall think external power meant it is powered to amplify your passive monitors? You said Beagle looked so pro. Well your statement was soooo amateur. Ha! Looked like you were trying to call Beagle out! Called yourself out instead! lol Good luck powering your speakers for under 100 dollars. A good amp means good sound, cheap amp affects sound a lot. That being said, what does somebody recommend for over 100 dollars? Or something for him to use that will do the job he is asking?

I got misunderstood. I like Beagle, it's one of my favorite around here. I wanted to say that his PICTURE looked professional not his statement. I have to learn somewhere, right? were you born knowing that a mixer with an external AC power supply is not a powered mixer? well, let's say $100 then? anything in that range?

No sweat! I didn't take it that way, Lance - no big deal, really! xxtraloud - all mixers have to have power to operate since they all have circuit boards inside them with active circuits, but to be a POWERED mixer, that means that it has power a power amplifier built in for the speakers. you would use PASSIVE speakers with a POWERED mixer and you have to have POWERED speakers with an unpowered mixer. the only thing I can find near your price range for a powered mixer is here: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103829&cp=&sr=1&origkw=powered+mixer&kw=powered+mixer&parentPage=search http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Nady-MPM4130-4Channel-Powered-Mixer-with-DSP?sku=630421 neither of those are going to get you kicked out of a bar for being loud. if there's any way you can afford to save up some more, the nady will do OK for starters, but the RS one really is not going to do that great if you're trying to use it for playing live somewhere. if that's all you've got and you HAVE to have it now, then it will work for now, but if you can wait - save up and get the NADY or better yet, save up and get something more like this: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Alesis-GigaMix-4FX-Powered-Mixer?sku=630162 or this: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Behringer-PMH2000-Europower-Powered-Mixer?sku=631240 Powered mixers will have the word "powered" in the title. unpowered will not. also make sure you check your input impedance of your speakers to make sure they match the output impedance of the powered mixer. it won't hurt anything if they're not the same, but you will get LESS power out of your speakers if the impedances don't match.

Nice of you to research Beagle. I would probably go with the Behringer or the Alesis. Dont mess with the radio shack or nady stuff I would say.

I agree with you, Lance! the only reason I put the RS and Nady in there was because it was either in his budget or near it. personally I wouldn't buy either of those, I'd wait until I could afford the Behringer or Alesis myself.

I'll look for a used one. thanks guys If you're looking used, look for a Peavey XR600 - or even the old XR400, or 400B. There are LOTS of crappy little amps out there, which you should be able to pick up for around $100-150. Do you have a Music-Go-Round in your area? I can't tell where you're located from your profile. Do not buy new... you can get MUCH more bang for your buck in the used market. Your original request said: I need it for practice, we have passive speakers, so I guess it needs to be a powered mixer. 4 channels is enough, and I need a stereo output. if it has reverb even better. one thing very important. it needs to be small and lightweight You don't need stereo output for practice, and won't get it in the price range you've put forth. It also won't be small and lightweight, but that's all relative... it'll have a handle on top, and can be carried with one hand, but it'll be fairly heavy, depending on what you get. You will NOT want to use the mixer in a $100 watt powered head to drive you active monitors, but it will handle practices just fine. I just took a quick look on Craigs List in my area (Minneapolis, MN), and there aren't any available at the price point you've suggested... Good luck, xxtraloud! Corey

Caveat emptor. Which would be why you'd test it. Seriously, Jessie... these things tend towards the "bullet-proof" end of the chain. If it turns on and makes a decent sound, it probably will for years to come. Their failures are usually pretty evident. Especially the specific pieces of Peavey gear I suggested. Buying used always involves some risk... but in this class of gear, you're usually fine. There are no tubes to worry about, and the types of failures they experience (scratchy knobs, overloading the amp by running too many speakers, broken knobs) are USUALLY readily apparent. Besides, he has $100. What would you suggest in the "new" market? Corey

There has got to be some decent used stuff in the Minn. Minn area. Check out music stores that take trade-ins, pawn shops. Make sure you can test it. That Peavey stuff is all over the place. Tough as a tank. Randy

ORIGINAL: xxtraloud thanks a lot Corey! yes I am RIGHT HERE and right now I wish I wasn't. but what do you think of this http://cgi.ebay.com/Behringer-PMH518M-Powered-Mixer_W0QQitemZ270205187089QQihZ017QQcategoryZ41472QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem That would work great for what you're looking to spend... but I'd look at the used market first. An XR600 is just the ticket for what you need! Seriously! Oh, and it's supposed to get warmer this weekend! We should hit just below freezing... ugh! lol - I'm a glutton for punishment, so I'm headed up to Duluth to escape the heatwave! lol any knowledge about PYLE mixers? Yes. If you sell it to a Music Go Round tomorrow, you'll probably make $50 on the deal! lol The reverb on those things sounds like arse. Don't turn it on... ever! lol I'd pay for it.
