missing audio files

Hello Gurus! I recently transferred all my info to an external drive due to lack of disc space on my laptop PC. now i can no longer find my music audio files. I can find the songs and they have all the tracks displayed but there is no sound in them. The system tries to find the missing audio files but to no avail.

Any ideas on how i can retrieve all my hard work?
My system is XP based.

thanks in advance,
Cliff

I hope you didn't delete the old folders.....

CWP files do not contain your audio files... they only contain pointers to the audio files which are in your Cakewalk audio folder called Cxxxxxxxxx.wav (where x is a random string of alphanumeric characters). If you delete the folders, Sonar will no longer be able to find these files. You either need to copy all of the files in the audio folder over to the new drive or save your projects to CWB (bundle) files which are much larger because they include the actual WAV files in a single file.

when you try to open your songs, a 'find missing audio' dialogue box opens - point it to your external drive and let it search - if it ain't there...

Go to Options-Global-Folders Tab and that will tell you where Sonar is putting your files. The ones you're interested in are the Project Files and Audio Files.

Then go to the Audio Folder tab and get the Global Audio Folder.

Any of those folders could contain your missing audio files.
