mc4 ad windows media cetre compatability

having a few problems with mc4 , i am able to record midi tracks using a yahama psr 295 via a midi to pc (usb) cable.
The problem is when i try to use the soft synths especially<DROPDOWN i only get ONE preset sound! I have heard that mc4 has some kind of problem when using MEDIA CENTRE EDITION O/S, id love to get this software running properly , ive done the tutorials and the pc has the specs to run the program UNLESS of course mc4 cant work with MCE.

if anyone could help i would be grateful

thaks all, dave s

none of cakewalk's software is compatible with MCE, but not everyone has problems with it. but the problem you're describing doesn't sound like an OS compatibility issue.

    what is <DROPDOWN ?

Hello beagle, thanks for the reply. First i should apologize for my awful spelling!

regards dropdown i actually meant DROPZONE from the soft synth options, a list of presets appear on the screen but when i select any they all are the same!!ie DROPZONE is giving me just ONE preset to use. Also if im getting this far with mc4 can i assume that the O/S is somehow allowing the software to run?

    regards dave s

    Hi dave,
if you can open MC, record and hear playback then I think that those were the problems occuring with MCE, so you're probably OK.

as far as dropzone, I don't know enough about it to tell you how to use it. I've never used it before and I don't have it. some softsynths don't have any presets, tho, so it's not necessarily a problem depending on how the softsynth is used. try using TTS-1 instead for now and see if it works, then maybe someone else who has used dropzone can come along and help you with dropzone specifics.

    hi, Beagle.
Yeah maybe my O/S is compatable after all, i guess i would not have got so far if there were issues?
I'll do tutorial#8 again and once again thank you for the help, sorry for being a pain BUT i really want to get recording asap and im getting a little frustrated with the slowness of my progress--i hope it isnt a lack of intelligence on my part!!!!!!!

As noted many times before, there is a steep learning curve involved in this program, and there are hardware/software issuses that must be dealt with. But once the initial settings are worked out and you get familliar with the work flow of the program, the cakewalk begins. Unfortunately, those first few steps take some time, but hang in there, the end result makes it all worth while.

Thanks for that Albert, I guess its a bit like learning to drive for the first time, when it seems you have to do EVERYTHING at once..lol I think im doing some of the right things some of the time but it still "feels" alittle awkward, but i" totally new to MIDI so i guess i should be patience.

    thanks for your reply

I think DropZone is a sample player. The samples have to be loaded in it to play.
I've never used it, and a quick look (unable to find any help file reference) showed it like you wrote; no presets. So play with it awhile, click buttons, click the 'load' button and see if you can find the samples. Along the learning process, click 'help' or 'properties' as often as you can.

Planning on getting a newer desktop CPU probably with XP. Any suggestions on best choice for sound card? (So many choices) New to Music Creator 4.0. Planning to compose, record from Roland 4700, and maybe write to CD.

notice there are no soundblasters in the list. I need to modify that page and spell it out more clearly, but SB cards are not designed for recording.
