What hardware specs requirements

Hello,
what hardware specs requirements would you recommend fo low latence 64 audio track playback?

virtually no effects, or softsynths used - just want to record 32 live stereo instruments on 32 stereo audio tracks

CPU / SPeed: ?
Memory: ?
Primary Hard Drive: ?
Audio Hard Drive: ?
bit / Sample Rate: 24 bit / 48
Audio Interface: MOTU-UltraLite or M-Audio 1814
OS: Windows XP Home
Sonar 7 Studio

Is RAID really necessary for 64 - 75 audio teacks simulteneous playback?

Some people say it's all CPU power, others say that Hard Drive speed and buffer is the key to play many audio tacks simulteneously. Please help. Thank you!

"32 live stereo instruments"? Can you be a little more specific?

Thats not a good question. theres too many variable, like sound card drivers and what bit rate and sample rate you record at and what else you have installed in your pc. Sound card and their drivers are just as important as pc specs.
Any pc sold today at any best buy or other chain store can run 64tracks. Its the sound card that gives you your performance.

Ok, the sound card is MOTU-UltraLite or perhaps M-Audio 1814 both around $500

Bascially, I'm considering ADK Pro Audio PC and does not know whether I should invest money in CPU speed or Har DRive performance.

Since, for the most part 64 audio tracks will be sufficient for my needs, what hardware would you recommend?

Lets just say I'll use 64-70 audio tracks for simulteneous playback.

What RAM? CPU speed? FSB throught? Hard dRive configuration would you recommend?

Thank you for your valuable input!

ok. Just want to be able to record and playback 64 audio tracks - or 32 stereo pair (Left / Right) for instruments.

I'll use Korg OASYS for input tone generator.

In other words, I'll record midi in SOnar, then send it out as MIDI out to Kotg OASYS and then record audio in from OASYS' L/R.

Thus, in the end, I should be able to hear all 32 instuments (2 audio track per instument) playing simulteneously. Than you for your help and advise.

Do you simply want to record 8 channels simultaneously... and ultimately playback a total of 64 channels?
Or... are you wanting to record 64 simultaneous channels of live instruments?
If it's the later, those audio interfaces only provide 8 simultaneous analog inputs.

CPU speed = DSP (mixing power)
    HD speed = Tracks
RAID is not necessary (good 500GB HDs sustain ~100MB/Sec)

I'd still get the fastest machine you can afford.
Once you have those tracks recorded, you're going to want to mix them.
Get a Q6600 system running at 3GHz (should cost ~$1500 for a well spec'd system with 500GB/32MB cache audio HD)
    That's performance equal to a QX6850... which is a $1000 CPU!

I want to record 4 tracks simultenously, while playingback 64 audio tracks.

Thanks a lot for helping with this.

I just need to playback 64-88 audio tracks simultenously, but did not know hardware specs for such machine.

    Thank you for helping out.

By the way, could one use East West COllection of samples (VST plug ins) with Sonar.

    Thanks again.

thats why you call ADK, to ask these type questions.

@ 48k that can be acomplished with1 os drive and 1 Audio drive, 2 gig ram and the lowest cpu we offer.

that would require a sperate HDD for samples and 4 gig of ram, faster cpu.

OASYS, eh? Sounds like money's not an issue at your house!
