RealTek Sound Card Latency

Here is the system with the problem:

Windows XP Home
Dell Inspiron 530
Intel Core 2 Quad Processor
2 GB Ram
350 GB HD
Realtek ALC888 On-board sound
MC3 reported latency (Options>Audio>General) 34.8ms

I am experiencing latency problems when playing Edirol PC-50 MIDI keyboard. It's so slow you can hardly play when you use the MME driver mode.
I have downloaded and installed what I thought were WDM drivers (WDM_186.exe) from RealTek but Music Creator 3 does not show the wavetable synthesizer when I try to use the WDM driver mode. The only midi outputs are "Midi Mapper" and the "Edirol Midi Out."

The following system works fine with the same software and keyboard:

Windows XP Home
HP Pavilion dv4000
Intel Pentium M
2 GB Ram
80 GB HD
SoundMax On-board sound
MC3 reported latency (Options>Audio>General) 90.2ms

WDM/SK driver mode works fine with very little latency.

Thanks for any suggestions.

the MS GS wavetable is only availbable in MME mode as you noticed. but if you'll learn to use softsynths then you won't need the MS GS wavetable. do tutorial #8 and it will teach you how to use softsynths in your projects and the sound is much better than the MS GS wavetable anyway.

as for latency, you're only going to get your latency down to a reasonable level if you upgrade your soundcard. 90msec is way too much. I record at 5.8msec. a soundcard with good drivers is the most important thing to reduce latency. check out my website for more info on soundcards.

Thanks for the quick response. I had tried using the soft synths but it didn't really help that much. Because of your reply though, I tried setting the DXI output to "Master" instead of to the "RealTek Audio." That seemed to help. Thanks again.
