track pan vs Bus send pan

Here's a function the advantage to which confuses me. Suppose I already have my track panned the way I want it. What's to be gained by panning the send to, say, an Fx bus? Frankly, once the track is panned, I cannot detect a difference in the way it sounds, with or without the Bus send pan. consequently, it probably doesn't matter, but my curiosity is piqued. Any pointers?

It kind of depends on what kind of f/x is on the buss. Since you often just use the wet output, and the wet output often changes the apparent position of the sound, it won't necessarily seem as panned as the original pan level of the send. But it definitely does have an effect. If you pan a reverb send to the opposite side of the sound stage from the direct track output, the reverb should definitely show up more on the other side. The nature of reverb might make it sound more or less so than if it was just a straight dry passthrough via the buss, to varying amounts depending on the nature of the reverb being used.
