Korg padKontrol driver problem

Hi all,

I normally post in the HS section as I have HS6XL but after doing a search to try to solve this problem I saw that the Padkontrol knowledge is in this section of the forum

I'm running the Padkontrol into my PC with the USB connection. Window XP recognized the hardware and installed a windows midi driver. I then went ahead and installed the padKontrol driver as instructed in the padKontrol manual.

In Sonar under Options/Midi Devices the padKontrol (or USB device) was not listed as an input device. I did a shut down/restart and it still wasn't there. I unistalled the driver and reinstalled the driver, still not there. Note that in my system tray I do have a midi icon and it shows activity when I play the padKontrol.

Then I reverted back to the windows driver and now under Sonar's Options/Midi Devices the USB device is listed. And I can get the padKontrol to work in Sonar with the windows midi driver.

My concern is am I getting less performance (latency in particular)? Will some of the features not work using the windows midi driver?

And if so, does anyone have any suggestions on getting Sonar to recognize the Korg driver.

Thanks in advance

Frank

Interesting. I just reinstalled the KPK on my new system a week ago. I told windows not to look for and install drivers and then I installed the KPK drivers. Works just fine in Sonar. Very strange that Sonar is not finding your installed drivers and listing them.

Sorry about the obvious question....you are turning the device on the USB switch before starting Sonar?

Thanks Fred. How do you tell windows not to look for and install drivers? This plug and play business seems to happen automatically on my computer.

And yes, I did turn on the USB switch before starting Sonar.

Another thing I discovered, my notation software GuitarPro5 is having the same problem, it won't list the device as a midi input when I install the Korg driver and but it will when I use the windows midi driver.

And when I go to control panel, Sounds and Audio devices Properties, Hardware, Properties, General, the device is listed as a USB audio device. Fred is that the same for you.

Also I've also used this usb port for a soundcard before, not sure if that could have got things tracking wrong.

    Thanks for your effort.

When I plugged in my USB cord, Windows said I had a new device and asked me if I wanted windows to find the driver for it. It gave me a choice. I told it no and then installed the Korg driver.

And yes, when I go to Audio device properties it does list the KPK as a USB device and under drivers it lists the driver as korg and no other listings.

Maybe the latest updates to XP allows the choice for driver installation. I was surprised mine asked as the korg instructions said it would find a driver automatically. I still have no clue why Sonar wouldn't recognize it for you.

    Thanks again Fred,

On a Korg site a poster suggested uninstalling my soundcard and then reinstalling both but the korg first.

I did that, I uninstalled one of my soundcards a digitech GNX3000, it didn't help the Korg but now my digitech won't work in wdm mode which is a bummer because I was running an m-audio and the digitec as two soundcards. Now I have to run asio and only one sound card at a time.

I'm wondering if I should reformat my hard drive and start from scratch. OUch that would hurt and not being knowlegeable about computers I don't know if I'd get it all to work again.

Did you ever get this issue resolved? I've been running my Korg padKontrol for about almost 3 years and in the last 2 weeks it has started to crash Sonar for some reason. I've re installed everything (Drivers/Card) plug and unplug...sometimes it works if I turn the padKontrol AFTER I start Sonar, and sometimes it doesn't. It will cause X1 to Hang, freeze then crash.
