loss of sound playback and output control

Okay – semi newbie here – new to Sonar but not to digital recording. I’ve noticed several posts with people who’ve had a similar problem – but none of them have resolved my issue.

I was recording via MIDI (using um-1 ediroal usb input from a casio privia as well as soft-synth playback of imported midi files from Sibelius) and a live input (mic) just fine until yesterday – when several strange things happened. I can play audio via WMP and itunes – but I can’t get any playback from Sonar. Midi input/output flashes activity when I try to play file in sonar, but still no sound. I also can arm to record, but cannot get a signal or actually get the thing to record.

I’m running Vista 32-bit, dual 1.6s, with 2038 MB RAM. I’ve got an external Lexicon OMEGA sound module (ASIO) which was working like a dream until this happened. I get a read on its monitor when I check the mic, but nothing in Sonar.

I haven’t changed any settings – although I’ve noticed now that my output for all the live vocal tracks seem stuck on OMEGA ASIO 1-2. I’ve checked all my connections/cables and still nothing. Following some other threads, I reset the drivers, made sure there wasn’t a wireless connection on, or any anti-virus programs running. I’ve also made sure all the sampling rates were the same.

Any and all pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers - Redwolf

I'm monitoring from the Omega. Have stereo outputs running to monitors - but the sound when it plays otherwise (itunes, WMP, etc.) still plays via usb to the Omega.

Thanks for your help, Beagle. Admire your posts and knowledge just from skimming this forum.

    check the output drivers:
    OPTIONS>AUDIO>DRIVERS
make sure the omega is set for the output drivers.

It is - both options are checked for output: Omega ASIO 1/2 and OMEGA ASIO 3/4.

I just had a thought ok dim jokes can come later...

I do not want to high jack someone's or anyones thread. Hopefully it is on topic. The Omega has to have all the output drivers checked is this to enable sonar to run properly, and what if you oly have two out of the four checked how does this make a difference.

Dappa - I'm not quite sure what you mean. It lists only Omega 1/2 and Omega 3/4 in the output field - and both are checked.

    Still stuck with no sound.

So just to clarify, can you hear 1) audio and 2) MIDI tracks or not?

And can you record audio tracks?

It sounds like the track inputs/outputs have been changed to something besides the Omega, but I'm sure you've checked that already, right?

I've tried to answer some of the more common SHS questions:

I can hear audio from WMP or other programs like Sibelius/itunes/etc. I cannot hear audio or Midi in Sonar - although when I hit play for a midi track, the lights register and blink.

    I can't record anything. Zip.

The output is frozen (i.e. no dropdown menu appears when I try to pull it down) on Omega ASIO 1/2.

    ORIGINAL: redwolfprojects

The output is frozen (i.e. no dropdown menu appears when I try to pull it down) on Omega ASIO 1/2.

That negates my sugestion. A few times I've had all my track outputs default to None for no apparent reason. Check the Output on your Master bus, I had that do the same thing once

Hmmm. Output on Master bus is still Omega ASIO 1/2. And now on the vocal track I can't change the input dropdown. It gives me the option for a soft synth (tts-1) or Omerga ASIO 1/2 - but I can't choose the OMEGA - so it says none.
    This is getting beyond frustrating.

hi just wondering if you managed to sort this problem? I am a newbie to this and I'm using an edirol FA-66. What you are describing is very similar to what i have at the moment. If you sorted it can you drop me a post and let me know the fix please.
