internet drive backup
Anyone using an internet service to back up their hard drives, like Carbonite? How is it? Does it slow you down? Does it work? I think I heard one of my internal drives make a little noise yesterday, and I'm afraid. Very afraid! Want to back up the entire drive. Thanks!

That way you don't need a network connection to get your stuff back. By the way network card drivers eat up CPU power even when not in use, even with no cable plugged in !

Thanks, ohhey, I think your advice is sound, especially since externals are so cheap now. Thanks again, Milt.

BE AFRAID! Be very afraid! I just lost a hard drive which has 2 year's worth of work on it and I haven't backed up in a year. I have since been looking at carbonite. for $50 a year it looks pretty good. guitarhacker recommended it because he uses it.

Thanks, Beagle, very sorry to hear about your catastrophe. I have been doing some research, and the reviews overall are not very good for Carbonite (or it seems for any online backup service). People complaining that it slows everything down, all files are not backed up and you are not told which ones are not backed up, and reports of non-existent support. I think I would feel better backing up to an external, and knowing that the content was there and I could access it whenever I needed to. I hope you can recover your lost data. Thanks again! Milt.

Just get high-speed USB2.0 or FireWire drive and backup. In this way, you do not have network connections to get you something back.I have to do some research, and overall not very good Carbonite.it quick comment on everything, all files are backed up, and tell you what the backup, and there is no support the report.
