Music Creator 4

Hi,

I am looking for a program that will write standard notation from a MIDI keyboard. Specifically I want to be sure that it will note in the correct time/note. For example, if I hold the note for 2 beats, it will make the half-note. I think Music Creator 4 will do this.

Also, how is this program for audio recording. I do mostly audio recording although I'm slowly learning MIDI. It's hard to find programs that do both well.

Thanks.

Yes, it will write the correct time/note in several ways--either with your midi keyboard or by clicking on half note, for instance, before you click on the note you want in the piano roll view or staff view. And if you want to change it later, just right-click on it and make it what you want. It's very easy to edit in that way. There is another program that might make the music LOOK better, but MC4 does a fine job if you're not too picky about the look of the final product. It's also great for audio recording, even though I don't use it for that. I think most do, though.

Thanks Janet, I think I'll order it now. I seem to see a lot of good things about this program. I have other programs as well that I use, but it would be nice to have a "complete package".

P.S. Forgot to ask. Can you import wav or mp3 files?

I think everyone will agree that there's a bit of a learning curve to get it up and running, but it's a great program. And this is a great forum for help when you need it!

I tried to dowload it, but the link doesn't work, only the box version. I would prefer to download it, but if I wait and get the box version does it come with a manual?

    Thanks.

    Nutty,
Try the download again, maybe tomorrow morning. The server is notoriosly dodgy, but if you catch it right, you should have smooth sailing on the download.
And yes, you can import wav and MP3's just fine.

Just to clarify - isn't the manual a pdf? not printed, IIRC.

To reply to your question... Yes. When you hook up your midi keyboard....(be sure to get a good soundcard/interface that has midi inputs & outputs on it as well as audio in/out)....you will be able to play your keyboard and capture the midi data and display it as notes on a musical staff ( in staff view)

You can edit it there...click & drag, delete, insert and do all sorts of things in that view. You can also print it out. (I did that once for a violin player who did not play by ear. I played the notes and CW did it's thing and I was able to hand sheet music to the violin player)

    Thanks for the replies.

I'm really anxious to try the program out, but unfortunately the link is still not working. Is there another site I can download it from? Or, ideally, is there a trial version? Since I couldn't get this program, I was considering moving up to Sonar Home Studio 6, but I can't find a link to download that one at all.

I'm so eager to get going and I can't get anywhere!

Help!!!!!!!!!!!!! I did send an e-mail for support, but it says it could be up to two business days before I hear anything.

    Thanks again.

Unfortunatly....CW tech support is a bit slow at times. They will respond...eventually, and hopefully solve the problem.

I downloaded the program and my download was picture perfect.

Once you get it downloaded, be sure to save a copy to DVD or somewhere that you can reload it after a computer crash or upgrade. Save the unlock keys too.

Hey! If you really want a copy of Music Creator 4 I have an extra copy that I can sell you if you really want it. I know that it seems like this might be a scam but maybe we can talk over the phone if you're unsure. I also have an ebay account if you want to buy it through there. I just bought this item a few days ago for $40 but it won't work for my computer because my computer is old. Anyway it was purchased at a place called Fry's Electronics. It has the disc and a booklet on how to make it work etc. You can email at alwaysshawn@hotmail.com

    Hi Shawn,

Yes, I 'm pretty sure I want a copy; however, I was hoping to download it. Since I haven't had any luck, I'm trying out other programs that have a free trial version.

I don't know where you are but I am in Canada, so it would take a while to ship most likely.

I checked Best Buy, Future Shop and Staples online, but they don't carry it here.

I am trying to buy MC by downloading it. At soon as I check download, I get the error message. If I check buy the box version, the link works. I just wanted the the downloaded version to get it right away.

I just checked again and if I choose the United States or Worldwide (which includes Canada), I get "Page Not Found". I just tried Europe and that link works! $57 Euros - I assume that's the same as $34.99 USD. I know the CDN dollar is almost the same as the USD, but I'll have to check out the Eruos. I feel funny picking Europe, but maybe that's my only choice? Would you go with choosing Europe?

    Thanks.

I don't think it's the same as USD/ I think you'll pay more that way and I would worry about it taking your money and still not getting the download. Personally, I'd really advise waiting until Monday morning and calling sales to get it resolved. I know you "want it now" - but I really wouldn't advise any thing else unless you just want to order the box version from cake or Musicians Friend or Sweetwater or somewhere like that.

That's what I was thinking too Beagle. I often order in USD because we don't have a choice, but we also know pretty much what it will be in Canadian dollars. Euros seems a little risky because I've never done it before and don't have the conversion offhand of Euros to CDN dollars.

I sure hope this program is worth it!

    Thanks for your help everyone.

Wow, that certainly solves my dilemma. 57 Euros is $92.00 Canadian. $35.00 USD is $35.25 Canadian. Guess I'm waiting until Monday. Why would they charge such difference? Just curious.

Nutty, Music Creator is the only Cakewalk sequencer program available for download, the other programs (Home Studio, Sonar 7) are just too big to download. Most computer/office supply stores also carry MC.

Don't waste paper on it. Copy it to your desktop so that when you need it...you know where it's at.

As you work with MC4 you will need it less and less.....plus.....don't tell anybody here...many times, I'll just post the question here rather than look it up. Most often, I get a better, more accurate answer, faster.

BTW....Doesn't it open automatically when you click on the help tab at the top of the screen?
