Revalver Mk III Demo

If anybody's interested, Peavey put a demo up on their website for the MK III version of Revalver. I just gave it a try, and I must say it has some nice tones, especially the 'Reelin preset, a smooth classic valve sound.

Here's the link:

I'm curious as to what others think, how the MK III compares to the Line 6 gearbox guitar tones.

Thanks for the link. I'm hopeing I can get some useful overdrive and distortions from this. I'm not thrilled with Amplitube 2 at all. I get some decent clean sounds from it, but that's all.

Actually, the more I play around with it, the more I like it - latency is just not an issue, and the tube and cabinet emulations are really good.

I messed with it for about an hour and I have to say.. so far this far better than any Amp Sim I've come across to date. It's priced at about 250.00 which isn't inexpensive..but it's a lot of software for the buck. Very nice indeed

I'm been playing with it quite a bit today, and I've also been experimenting with using the effects and the tube effects on vocals and acoustic guitar - I was able to make some cool sounding vocals using the one triode tube rack located in the tools section. Matter of fact that sounded really good, and you can select from 10 different types of modeled tubes. So, in effect this can also be used a a tube mic preamp as well.

Hmm..I'll ask this here as the Alien Connections forums is obviously going to be biased: As an owner of Revalver MkII who is totally happy with the high-gain capability of the software, is there really any point in upgrading to MkIII? Is the sound really that much better? I could try the demo I guess (not that I want any temptations to spend more money), but I thought I'd ask anyone who owns both what they think. Is the sound pallette in MkIII so much better than MkII that it's a no-brainer?

    Uh, nice web site.

But after 10+ minutes of looking I couldn't find the price.

    Does anyone know?

I have been on musiciansfriend site and it looks like the ReValver MKIII has been moved back until the end of June. I have used Amplitube and also Guitar Rig 3. So far I have liked the sound a little bit more over all with the ReValver MKIII and will probably wait until it comes out and get it.

Wow, this looks like the ultimate amp sim. At least, if you're a fan of Peavey amps. Don't look for a Fender or a Marshall mode. But with the kind of flexibility this has, you'll probably be able to get really close.

I'm not sure I'm ready to pay $250 for an amp sim, though. How about posting some of your experiments, Douglas? I'm especially curious about using it on vocals.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Actually, there's two Marshalls- a Bluesbreaker combo type and a JCM 900 type, as well as a Fender (both as a bass amp and as a guitar amp- they're both takeoffs on mid '60s Bassmans). There's also a Boogie (Dual Rectifier- why does everybody insist on emulating Rectos? Give me a Mark III instead, or a Lone Star Special...) and a Vox emu. The Bluesbreaker one isn't that bad, especially if you start playing around with the tube parameters.

I think I'm a little confused by this type of software. I have Guitar Port but it has an input for my guitar. Is Revalver meant to apply amp sims to a clean guitar signal - after the fact? Or is there a way to hear revaler's sims while you play?

You can monitor through any sim that I know of as you're recording- however, it'll be recorded dry.

    Then you re-apply the sim?

You can hear the effects real time as you play with ReValver. It can either be done through Sonar or whatever program you use or ReValver is also a stand alone program.

    Hi bitflipper,
Open up MKIII in the fx bin, and click for new module. Select 'Tools', and then select 'Single Triode'. Once you have this loaded, you can select different tubes by clicking on the tube icon, which then prompts a pop-up menu where you can tweak by tube type, character, etc. There's quite a bit of tweaking you can do within this menu, and quite a bit of it is beyond my understanding. However, just using different selections for tubes and character gives the user quite a few sonic possibilites for vocals and instruments.

I recorded vocals dry and then applied the 'Single Triode' effect, and then tweaked by tube type and character type.

I haven't taken the plunge in purchasing it yet, but I'm tempted - a sale price would be nice.

I upgraded to the full RevalverI many years ago. However, I am not a guitar player, but a keyboard player (including the dread accoustic piano!!) I use amp sims to distort and tweak (mostly) synth sounds or guitar samples (and the occasional B3 sound too.) As I recently got Amplitube2 and do have the original Revalver (plus a few freebies) is there any point in me spending a lot of money to get this? I am not sophisticated enough about guitars to know the difference between a Peavy Stack and a Marshall stack.... I just like to distort and wail away with a sawtooth waveform etc. Unfortunately, I am a software junkie (although I have been able to give up a lot of hardware which tends to be more expensive!!)..... so I would consider it.

    Thanks for the opinions.

Talk is cheap; supply outweighs the demand.

Light travels faster than sound, that's why some people look bright before you hear them speak.

Jerry Jones bought the Dallas Cowboys, Andy Reid owns them!!

Just got around to using the demo and was really surprised how much I liked it. Pretty versatile, but the thing I liked most was beng able to tweak the guitar sounds AFTER playing. With my Guitar Port you need to nail the sound as you are playing but with this software and I suppose all other guitar vst plug-ins you can play afterward. Probably not new to that many people but I didn't know how this kind of software worked. I also suppose it's the same as Line 6's Gearbox vst plugin, Guitar Rig etc. New to me and I like it.
