Wireless headphones

You guys were talking about wireless mice and headphones the other day but I need some clarification. I'm considering a set of wireless headphones so I can get up and walk around while listening to a song instead of being glued to this piano bench. Does the wireless-ness mess with your computer too much for that to work well? (hey, that was 3 syllables in a row all ending with -ess. I bet I couldn't do that again!) lol

Not sure about headphones, but my experience with a wireless mouse, the mouse and the infrared unit are constantly sending signals back and forth. Even if the mouse is still, the system keeps checking to see if it is still there. It caused some dropouts and a static-ie noise, but I didn't have as much ram at the time, and I have pared down the extraneous programs running in the backgraound since then, who knows, maybe the results would be different today. But, since you're sitting still while playing the keyboard (you are sitting still, right?), you could switch to regular hard wired headphones while recording. No, wait, are you doing a Jerry Lee Lewis impersonation while recording, kick the piano bench out of the way, foot on the low keys? Great balls of fire?

Now that would be fun! Yeah, I could switch to wired phones while at the bench. I just need to get up and move around sometimes!!! I might give it a try. I think it's my turn to buy something in this household! lol

I bought a set of wireless headphones ar radio shack about two years ago, i use them all the time, I hate cords hanging all over to step on and sit on while mixing and recordind. I love them i was mixing a song the other night and had to walk outside to my car to get a book of song lyrics and listened all the way out and back no problem. Most wireless hardphones have some kind of adjustment for freq drift or interference. I did accidently over hear my neighbor ordering on QVC one night and actually heard her give her credit card number on the phone picked up on my headphones.

I'd Seize the day but i can't quite reach it!

That's what I needed to hear, Rob. Thanks. I've almost tripped myself on these wires and they definitely limit your range of motion! My good set just died, so I think it's time for it. My son had a pair in high school and I thought they were pretty cool. I kept getting mixed up, though, and called them headless earphones. I still have to think first when I try to say WIREless headphones.

I want a set of them headless earphones. Where do I get them. A must have for any studio operation.
If Robo was able to use them for so long without any problems, I guess my concerns are a non-issue, so go for it, but I want a video of the new janet/jerry lee show, I see great youtube potential.

Janet, those look nice. I am so bad Herb, I actually do use them to mix, but i always reference them on several system before final mix down. I just got used to them and like the clarity. Even though i know it is not the norm.

Hmmm, you got me to thinking, I use my monitor speakers when I record my guitar/bass/vocals/any keyboard things I piddle with, when it comes to recording vocals I only use headphones. Is that the right way to go about recording? It seems to work for me but I haven't done too much since getting back into music.

Freeze, I think the reference here would be to not use wireless headphones while recording, to avoid noises.

I'm sure you are right Albert. I don't, I used normal headphones that plug into my mixer, I was just wondering if that's the best way to go about recording, using my monitor speakers for recording guitars/bass/keyboards/drums and headphones for recording vocals, keep in mind when I talk about recording guitar/keyboard/bass/drums that I keep the monitor speakers away from having any effect on the pickups of any of those instruments although I can still hear them over the monitor speakers.

My headless earphones... er.... wireless headphones...came today and they're cool! Great sound (well, for my untrained ears!) and it's GREAT to be able to walk around and listen and not trip on wires. And batteries are included! How many toys have batteries included these days! Actually, I wouldn't have a clue since I haven't bought toys for a long time, but anyway, I was impressed.

After you use them for a few days...post your thoughts and opinions on them. Battery life ( I see they are rechargables), sound quality, misc noise & hiss, range, yadda yadda......

    Great to hear that Janet!

I could really use a pair too. My headphones wires keep getting wrapped up in the wheels of my chair. I noticed that I have an awful bend in the wire in some spots. Just waiting for them to break. So if you are happy with these, I'll have to check them out!

OK, you all wanted a review of these things. So far, no good. You have to tune them to hear the music, which is fine. But they'll work fine for awhile and then I just get annoying static. Sometimes I can retune them and they'll work OK, but I don't want to have to keep doing that! My son wondered if it was because it was near too many wires (computer, stereo, etc.) or if the rechargable batteries (that were included) aren't any good. (They require rechargables, btw.) The few times it has worked it IS nice to have the freedom to walk around the room and not be tied to the piano and computer. But if I can't figure out why there's so much static, I'll be sending them back. Any ideas?

I have a set of wireless headphones. At first, it was a bit of a challenge to get it tuned just right. Yiu have to keep making minor adjustments to the tuning until there is basically no background noise. Still, you will find in certain parts of your house, there may be interference from outside sources, like your neighbour's phone. If I stand in a certain spot in my basement, it sounds like I'm on my neighbour's extension phone. Depending on your location in relation to where the main unit is, you can expect to occasionally have extraneous noise. I guess it's the price we pay for convenience! :-)

Maybe the interference is coming from whatever is in between the ear pads?

As much electromagnetic radiation as we have flying around, you can expect static. Even the power cords of all your electric devices in the house give off rays which can interfere with clear reception. Wireless phones, wi-fi routers, cellphones, pacemakers, microwave relay towers, all give off radio noise, and are subject to interference from each other.

Albert, that's assuming there IS any activity between the ear pads! I'll have to check on that. Actually, this may be some indication: Yesterday I was looking for my sunglasses all over the place. Finally found a pair. Only then did I realize I already had TWO pairs on top of my head! lol

So Greg, are you saying this might be a lost cause unless I move out into the jungle or something?
