the M8audio is for audio tracking...JS2 is supposed to follow audio based on the peakes and valleys....however, I have never used it to do that. I use midi tracking or just tempo tracking. If you have a song...all you need to do is one of two things.

1.insert JS2 into a new audio track..... follow midi...it will play your pre-existing midi drum tracks..point the midi tracks to JS2 and select the drum module mode. It will play the input from the drum midi tracks

2. insert JS2 into a new audio track....free style....select the mode that follows the tempo..I don't have it on this computer so I can't tell you exactly the name... not audio, not midi, not drum module.....I think there's another mode....any way... just hit play and it will create a drum track for you. I think you need to have a song template loaded....so it knows what to do....there are many default templates ex: 12 bar blues.....

Just play around with it and experiment. keep us posted.

One of the cool features of Jamstix, is that it does not need a midi track to trigger it, you can set it to on input, and it will play a drum track on tempo from you project. In some host you need one midi note to trigger it, in some others it will play without trigger.

Nuttster, if you only have the pro version of BiaB you would get a lot from the Mega pack, I just upgraded to the super pack, and got all the new real instruments, and all the real drums, and had a ball tonight upgrading the sound of my growing set list.

I'd Seize the day but i can't quite reach it!

In my rig...I need to have something in the host for it to play. even on the no input .... follow the song menu as a guide. There has to be measures of something there or it stops. So I insert a midi track, enter one note on the beat of 1 and copy it and paste as many measures as I need for the song.

Herb sometimes i have inseeted JS as a vsti in a midi track, and inert one midi note in the piano roll and that will trigger it on start up to follow the tempo of the song. I will say it depends on what host you use it in. It is a no brainer with a midi drum track to follow so that is the prefered method. One simple method with cake is to enter four notes in a bar and the cut and paste them as a click track then enter jamstix in the rack and point the click track to it.

Hi Rob & Herb thanks a lot for the details of your own JS2 setups; I'm sure this'll help me figure out my new setup; I wasn't able to get back to my music stuff until yesterday, since buying and downloading the JS2 Friday - the install and reg. went fine, and I got in and registered the drumkit plug-in, that said all was OK. Going into MC4 then, I setup a MIDI/Audio track pair per the VSTi procedure, and tried to select something - JS2 came up ok and I started browsing through some presets, when it crashed MC4 big-time. I got a gazillion screens of application failure, finally I had to go to my Task Manager and shut down MC4 completely. Then I ran out of time.
This in itself doesn't bother me, as I'm sure I hit something wrong and I gotta learn the sequence of steps here with JS2. I should be back on it tonight and will see if I can get it working right. I'm very excited to have this now and I took a lot of time to read through the entire manual before I even tried to open it up. No doubt, I'm gonna love it.

I have that problem too Janet, but I still read them with the hopes of a miracle. On our travels this weekend I read the Axiom manual and about 1/2 of the Jamstix manual. I hope at least if I ask questions, there might be something there that will click for me

Yeah, we all need a few miracles with this stuff! lol. I'm going to read my manuals some day. When I get tired of writing music. Until then I'll just limp along--or keep asking questions here. But seriously, I find it helps me more to DO it while I'm reading--or go to the manual when I get stuck. Then it makes more sense. But whatever works!

Yes, it is definitely more beneficial to read the stuff while with the equipment. I often catch myself with "now where did I read something about this?". However, I seem to have a hard time with idle time, like travelling in the car, so I read manuals and stuff. Maybe I need help?

This thread has taken an ugly turn...
I refuse to consider reading a manual, it just isn't done. Its like asking for directions, or checking the recipe, or looking it up in the dictionary when you can't spell something, or...shudder at the thought...asking your wife.
O.K., that last one was just too scary. I'm throwing my manual away and deleting the help file as soon as I get home

I think you will really love it. Just don't try to make it complicated. What i do is take the song and count the bars in it, then figure out in that bar count where the breaks and verse and chorus changes are. Then i chose a style, and add the number of bars in the bar window and pick a drummer and hit go. There is a little more to it than that but you get the picture. Bacally to start with just put in a rock jam settin in the thing and let it jam to the song then let it run and count the bars as it plays and make notes on a pad and then write in the changes.

Welcome to the forum uro.

Okay, I think I'm going to buy the Jamstix after all. I also wanted to upgrade Band in a Box, but their sale is on until July so I can put that off for now. I was wondering if it is worth the extra $20 to get the XL version? I don't think I need any of the optional paks.

Thanks.

I did not buy the XL, but i already had the drum paks 1 & 2 from JS 1, so i did not really need it. I will say i very seldom use the drum kits from those paks, i do want to upgrade for the Bonzo pak most likely next month, as i just upgraded to 2008.5 on BiaB. I think the Regular version will keep you happy for a long time.

Robo,

If you have a style, including drums, do you still have to add the number of bars in the bar wiindow or can you just pick your drummer and go? I know I can easily print out the bars from BiaB, but if I can skip this step - even better!

Thanks.

Is Jamstix 2 not a downloadable file? I got receipt of payment, but no link to download the program. If they send the disks, manual, snail mail, do you know how long it takes to get it? I'm in Canada, so that might add a day or two. Oh well, I always like to have a hard copy of the manual (yes, because I read them in my spare time and sometimes to fall asleep at night. You can get pretty wound up recording music!)

Thanks.

I downloaded and installed the trial version of Jamstix 2, but when I created a new audio file in my Music Creator project and right-click on the FX, then Choose the Soft Synths sub-menu, all I have there is "Plug-in Layouts", "Cakewalk TTS-1", "DropZone" and "TriangleII". I don't see Jamstix Demo. Was I supposed to install Jamstix in the Cakewalk folder? Am I doing something else wrong?

what version of MC do you have? if MC3 or earlier, you need to run the VST Adapter. If MC4, you need to tell MC4 where to find the JS dll file and then scan for the vst. OPTIONS>GLOBAL>VST
