Dumb connection question

Hi folks,
Trying to work out which wires go where. Got midi keyboard with 5 pin midi out and a usb port. On the usb soundcard there are a pair of 5 pin sockets but no spare usb ( the only one being to connect to the computer).
The books dont really help as the soundcard one shows a diagram of a keyboard with two midi sockets and the keyboard book shows a usb straight to the computer.
Is there a 5 pin to usb cable that I need or do i plug the keyboard straight into a spare usb on the pc and miss out the soundcard???
Thanks

you plug it directly into a USB port on the computer. MIDI does not have to go thru the soundcard - in fact even soundcards which have MIDI ports don't really do anything with the MIDI data except pass it along to the computer.
