copy and paste wave files

why is it that when i copy a wave clip from a track and paste it to a new audio track, it becomes approx 3 db louder (it clips)?
both track properties looks identical to me but then again i'm no expert

Perhaps your destination track is set to mono while the source track is stereo? This would cause a 3dB hit. (don´t ask me for details about that, i´m no expert and couldn´t explain without research)

I am guessing that you are a drummer from the spelling of paste in the subject title (like the cymbals) ~ no insult intended! I am a drummer myself.

PS ("real answer" time) whenever you double the source tracks, you go up 3 db.

Sorry guys for not answering back sooner and thanks for your help
Frank was right; the track was set to mono.
By default new tracks are set to mono and when you import stereo audio, the track is automatically set to stereo. Hi Ed actually I am a bass player and thanks for noticing my spelling mistake. I guess I’ve spent too much time standing beside the drums!!!!!
Thanks again 2 of all of U for making my life easier
