best moble soundcard

I'm trying to come up with the smallest/best quality moble recording rig. I picked up a m-audio moblepre usb today and it's not up to my standards. What would you all recomend. My laptop is currently running vista and I'm not sure what to do. Anyway, just thought I'd ask. Thanks.

how many simultaneous inputs do you need? Do you need analog only or digital I/O as well? Do you need preamps? And most of all what's your budget?

PCMCIA. I love my echo indigo so that's what I recommend!!!

Only 2 mono or 1 stereo analog inputs, but I can record 2 mono tracks and 1 stereo track simultaneously for at least 30 minutes at 5ms latency while being sample accurate. (loopback test) ...and all on a laptop.

Rock solid on playback at lower latency, so live play is accurate as well. If you play one synth at a time, you will be tuning the pops out and not hear the end latency. It should be that low.

I haven't stressed the synths realtime more than a few tracks, but the pc will dictate what your audio hardware is capable of. My older laptop couldn't loopback those tracks at less than 20ms with the same echo card.

Being that you picked up that maudio, i thing the FA-66 by Edirol will fit your needs and its rock solid with vista and XP. I can say that from experience

thanks for the info. 2 inputs is fine for the moble rig. This is basically just to be able to capture ideas on the road and mix while traveling. I been messing with this moblepre all night and I've got it working ok, but the edirol FA-66 sounds like it might be the deal. Thanks again

Hey, if you want REAL mobile, check out the Echo Indigo. It fits in the cardslot, has an HP out, and a stereo line in. Solid, and the drivers are great. I have that in my laptop, an old O2 keyboard and Etymotic earbuds...all in a small backpack. Plug in the keyboard, plug in the HP's and you're rollin'. I ride my bike to lunch and sit outside and write tunes.

    Life is good :)

ps...I plug in a pocket rocket for guitar.

I also have an Edirol FA-66, and it has (almost*) everything I could need to use with my laptop in a motel room. (*No midi, but that's easily dealt with using an M-audio 1x1.) Check out all the features.

    Cheers,

The only problem you might run into with the Edirol is that there is known issues with some laptops and firewire.

Koolbass, Are you sure about that, the FA66 does have midi in and outs, i would correct your post, so no one gets wrong info on the FA66. If you dont beleive me, just look at the unit again
