Question for those of you with a xenyx 802

I have read some reviews and have read that the 802 does not have a power switch. is this true? in fact, I've looked at the manuals and can't find reference to a power switch on the 802 or the 1202/1202FX. I can find in the manual for the 1204/1204FX that they DO have a power switch, but it looks like those are the first models who have them.

this would be a big deterent to me on the lower end models because I wouldn't want to leave it plugged in all the time and certainly would be a pain to unplug it just to turn it off.

well, I currently have a eurorack which DOES have a power switch, but it's a 1604. I'm looking to replace it tho because it's got static in the right channels.

AND the mic pres are way too harsh sounding.

cleaner than the xenyx series? I thought the xenyx series were supposed to be a step up.

but do they have the direct inserts like the mackies do? that's really important to me, I'll have to research them.

Sure enough, no power switch on the Xenyx802. I have mine on a power strip, along with the Yamaha MG10/2, Edirol MIDI controller( I don't really trust USB power), and the RP80. Flip the switch on the power strip, and the peripheral studio stuff is online. Computer, power amp, and video monitors are on another power strip that stays on.
My Yamaha does have direct inserts on the first two mic channels, ans a send/return on the main buses. The only drawback on this particular model is the two bus out. The four bus models would be nice.
I do like the pre's on the Yamaha, and all inputs go through it. I use the Xenyx as an output splitter mostly, and to control the volume on the power amp for the Alesis monitors.

so if you had the 12/4 instead you wouldn't need the 802, right?

Copy that. The 802's main function is to make up for the missing buses at this point.
If I had known then what I know now, I might have held out for the 12/4. It does have a healthy footprint though, and the two smaller mixers actually fit my workspace pretty well. Although, I think I would have made it fit.
I do like the 12 stage LED meters, and the guard on the phantom power button. Overall build quality is better. Check the mounts on the RCA jacks. Much more solid. The pots are very smooth and quiet. The EQ seems to have a healthy range, and can be somewhat aggressive if you get carried away.
    If I had the money, I'd get a 12/4 in a heartbeat.

Got the yamaha 16/4, clean, quiet, color-free pre's, no complaints.

I love my 12/4 it has the group output, off switch, great pres, and i paid $129 for it at GC on the sale rackThere is a nice used or demo 16/4 there now but it does not have a tag on it, I should check it out.

Mine has 4 inserts although I do not believe they work like the mackie inserts, those are great, where you can plug them in only one notch and theu will work like outputs and feed a card like the Delta 1010. I wanted the Mackie with the * inserts to do that setup with.

I'd Seize the day but i can't quite reach it!
