AmpliTube X-GEAR & Guitar Rig foot controller

I'm trying to set my Guitar Rig 2 foot controller to control some of AmpliTube X-GEAR's parameters using X-GEAR's MIDI Learn function but the program isn't responding to the foot controller. (I am able to control X-GEAR's parameters with my keyboard.) Is the Guitar Rig foot controller not compatible with X-GEAR for MIDI functions? IK Multimedia support has been no help.

For anyone else that runs into this problem: I've read in another forum that the GR foot controller will only work with Guitar Rig.

It's funny- both controllers essentially use the same automation scheme (they both use host automation) but are mutually exclusive.
What I'd like to see (and I've been pushing both NI and IK about this) is a standard shell for amp sims that 1) could use each other's controllers, and 2) could use each other's modules as well. I don't see where this would be economically unsound- the developers could then sell individual amps, effects, etc.- much like IK does with their AT spinoffs, but it could be broken down even farther in this case.

As a workaround, I'm using the effect pedal from my keyboard to control the wah pedals in AmpliTube.
