Only option for Input is none

I am a Newbie to the forum and really just getting started with the home recording thing. Oh, before I forget, thank you for any advice given here it is much appreciated.

For future reference here is my setup:
- Music Creator 3
- windows xp 64-bit 2003
- nVidia nforce
- Signal chain: bass > zoom 506II pedal > XENYX 802 >Left and Right RCA out > 1/8th mic input on cpu

So... here is my problem/question:

My only input option is “none”.

Troubleshooting I have already done:
- ran wave profiler
- I am able to hear and record through the “sound recorder” in the start menu
- I have imported the record audio into MC3 and it sounds like a helicopter blade is chopping it to bits.

Thank you again for any help/advice.

    fnb,
Fisrt thing, if your sound card (the nVidea nforce?) has a seperate line-in, use that instead of the mic input. If it is a combo input, set it to line.
MC3 defaults to WDM driver mode, and that helicopter is a classic symptom of the card not keeping up.
In MC3, go to Options>Audio>Advanced. Change your Driver Mode to MME.
Click OK, then close, and restart the program. It should run the Wave profiler automatically, but if not, run it manually.
This should clean up the sound. You can adjust the buffer size slider if you still get pops, but at the expense of increased latency.
A potentially bigger problem is XP64. This was designed for a specific hardware platform, and was not intended for home use.
It is no longer supported by Microsoft, and Cakewalk does not support it for any of their software.
MC3 may run on it, but many plug-ins will behave erratically or not at all in a 64 bit environment.
What are your computer specs? CPU, RAM, etc.?

    Good deal.
I saw your post earlier today, but I was at work and not able to respond.
If you have more questions, and I'm sure you will, ask away. It may take a while sometimes, but one of us will get to you if we have an answer.
CPU and RAM look fine. Take your time adding plug-ins, so if you do run into a problem child, it will be easy to figure out.
And welcome aboard. You are in for a fun, but challenging ride.

    Hey Street boy....  welcome aboard...

Since you are new, some advice: please start a new thread for a new topic (in the future) to keep the confusion to a minimum, and to avoid hijacking someone else's thread. There's always plenty of room for a new thread here.

OK.. to answer your question.... we need more information about the rig.... especially the soundcard and computer.  Got it that you're using a mixer and MC5..... now tell us about the rest, and we'll see what we can do to assist.

and details on how you have the mixer connected and what microphone you're using.

and did I mention we need DETAILS on the mixer connection?  ok, well it's worth mentioning again!  remember we can't see what you see, so you have to describe in great excrutiating detail so that we can help troubleshoot otherwise we're shooting in the dark.
