SMB Tune/Across The Lake
Forum PIG here!! Here's a tune I'm a bit nervous about posting. I'm actually playing piano (Yamaha motif keys in reality) I think I did one once before and vowed never to again. But, alas! However, James was very encouraging and supportive, so I kept on with it... My fingers 'flopped' in spots, but I'm trying and learning....still. James Griffiths - All guitars and mixing. Me - keys and stuff. Many thanks to James for humoring me and laying down his tasty guitar work. I mentioned to him in an email that he definitly has developed a signature style in his playing. I think you'll agree as well. We really do appreciate all of you for taking the time to listen and comment (good, bad, or indifferent) as we use this as our 'bench-mark', a litmus test if you will... It keeps us on our toes, and provides us with focus. Please click on the SlowMarchingBand link below.
Slow Marching Band Win 7 x64, Sonar X1E x64, Studio One v2, Focusrite Saffire 24 DSP Pro, Genelec 8030a, True Systems P-Solo, Focusrite ISA One, FMR RNP, GAP-73. "Someone to watch over me".

Thats it, I am really hanging up my keyboard this time. Time to stop pretending that I will ever be any good at this at all. I also know you are just humoring me like some poor wayward child. Brilliant. Lovely. Outstanding. Emotive and passionate. Perfect. If there were any mistakes I could not hear them at all. Cheers Shad

This is great, you guys! Beautiful stuff! Everything's so beautifully played. Really enjoyed it. Shad--don't give up! I think of quitting about every time I hear a new song on here. It usually goes away in a few minutes though. Keep on working at it and having fun!

I think I made that sound more serious that I meant it to be. Sorry about that. Janet, I live by the motto of Winston Churchill... never give up, never surrender. This music inspires me to work hard. Cheers Shad

Larry and James, very uplifting. I think the piano is my favorite instrument to listen too when played well, this was played well. If those fingers were flopping, keep ‘em flopping! Really nice synths and guitar work too.

You like it? We appreciate the kudos! Michael - Thanks bud! Lotta heart went into this and that's what it's all about. Rhyno - Thanks for the kudos on the keys..Whew!!! I agree with your comment on James' guitar...He has such melodic phrasing it makes me sick. Tom - Much appreciated Sir Tom! We're glad this connected with you.

Er, uh...I think that might have just gone all Pachelbel on me! It settles into it's own groove, and is very pretty, but it does still keep pulling me back to the Canon! Very nice work though!

Larry !! Awesome man, great tone and touch on that piano. I am impressed .. let's hope this is the first of many future keyboard excursions for you. You have a natural expression and flow on the keys. I had no idea. Very well done. And James, awesome tones and blend on this piece, Really liking the volume swells, and of course your sense of melody and ebb shines here too. This is great stuff guys. Kind of opens a whole new direction and area to explore. Wow, way cool.

larry it sounds like you are having a ball with the motif, and its a really unique way james works in the guitar parts to accent the piano work.

Hoist up sayle while gayle doth last! Stow the mizzen mast... batten down the hatches... arr matey... Great work lh This song really makes me want to take a windsurfer out into the Atlantic. Oh, I know pirates don't windsurf, but... uh... neither do I. Anyway, this is yet another great tune from you, very invigorating. Piano & guitars had the perfect balance. Keep them floppy fingers afloppin'

Larry, the term was forum whore... Really great work here by both. Very nice tones and composition. To me the guitar sounds just a hair sharp compared to the keys (or keys flat compared to guitar). Maybe I just have tired ears.

Thanks Kevin! - Yeah, the motif has some great sounds..when i can't get inspired with the guitar, I noodle around with the keys a bit. I agree with you about James. That man never ceases to amaze me with his fret-work! Rick - What! No cursing me out this time??? LOL! James & I appreciate the compliment...we never grow tired of those!! Mark - Thanks bud! Could it be that your right ear is sharp, and the left, flat? Just a thought...... try turning your head next time. Spaceduck - Aaarrrr Matey!! me be lookin' for the sea - wench below deck... I see pirates wind-surf all the time man!!! Thanks much!!!! Robert - Good to see you around these parts again pal!!! Welcome to the Pirate cruise line... Don't be a stranger so much...

Nice job Larry and James. I do look forward to your postings. I've been getting used to Larry's vocals, so I was half expecting something here. I think instrumentals are harder to do because there is so much more detail required. You both do such a good job of mixing as well. Scott

ORIGINAL: jamesg1213 Very kind of you Scott, thank you for those encouraging words *smacks forehead* jamesg1213 = James Griffiths (don't mind me; I'm still trying to figure out who's who on this board. We need a directory) That guitar melody is really memorable, and it goes great with the piano arpeggios. It lends itself to some really cool interplay between the 2 instruments. @ lh "wench below deck" LMAO

Just stoppin by for sec. I was telling James in another thread that I had listened the other day to this one. Nice work. Very nice keyboard work Larry! You are proving to be adept and finding different things to play and record. James's guitar sound is sweet and even with an edge of distortion in it he fits it right in there with the keys using some really sweet licks. Good job guys!

We all come at this music-thing from very different angels...when I heard this song it made me sit back and grin and it filled my heart. What a wonderful feeling....loved the song, loved the feeling. I really appreciate when I head songs from the heart as I don't at all write, perform or mix/master that way. I approach songs/music like an MMA fighter what heart I use, I use to overcome things...in fact overwhelm at times I'm sure...I would guess it must be like that for a power lifter to watch a figure skater…. I loved hearing you guys glide across the ice on that song…beautiful, just beautiful. Thanks Brudda!
