New Album

Hello all,

I've recently released a new jazz album. THis album has been mastered with brand new gear which hopefully makes a difference (as I believe).

I've uploaded all the songs in soundclick.

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_music.cfm?bandID=246923

Any comments/suggestions or critique are very welcome.

Thanks

What a beautifully recorded collection! How about some technical details? Like what's real and what's sampled/synthesized?

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Incredible, Pablo! I haven't listened to your older stuff in a long time and had forgotten how great your jazz sounds are. very nicely done all around. No critiques for you - all of the ones I listened to sounded great in the mix and composition. Bravo!

    bitflipper,

Thank you very much for the kind words. With regards to your question, I'm kind of in a transition phase moving from ALL MIDI back to the great acoustic world and this album has been a real change for me. The pianos are sampled but I use several different types. The guitars are all real, I had to grab my old Nylon Ibanez and make it work some how. I even stole a CP-70 (just joking, got it borrowed from an old friend, I really love that instrument). Basses are real but I got my old bass teacher being so kind to play some of the upright bass parts. Then the brass section and the strings are sampled. I hope I don't dissapoint with this classified information ().

    Thanks again for listening.

Pablo - Listening to 'Gracious Minds"'. Very cool tune! You certainly can play! Love the nylon string git..That's the next thing on my wish list! Well recorded and mixed. No nasties from me. I think your new gear was a good investment!

    WOW!,

Guys, thank you so much, this is overwhelming.

I've been working on this project for the last six months but there's nothing better than making music when knowing someone else might be enjoying too.

    Thanks again for your time.

    Hi No How,

Thanks for listening. Regarding ambience sound, if the track is an accoustic instrument I try to use the room ambience as much a possible. In case that a little bit more is needed then I would go with some convolution reverb, drums are mostly on room rev type. I have several type of reverbs setup for different instruments which require different settings to meet the mix needs.

If the mix is not busy I may also end up adding a tiny bit of a master plate reverb, I usually use some of those available in the UAD card. They seem to do the work without changing the material too much.

    Thanks again.

I listened to several of your songs. All done very well. Good luck with this CD!! A friend of mine has a CP-70. That is a fun instrument to play! I wanted to buy it from him cause he never plays it, but just don't have room for it in the studio!

i listened to a couple of songs and i am going to have to come back and hear more when i get the chance!! i love the big full open sound of the mix, the arrangements are very nice with a lot of instruments each adding a lot to the overall sound, and the synth playing is very impressive.

Loved it. I'm not sure if 'Occasional Resemblance' is on the CD, but I really enjoyed that piece - great guitar sound as well as the arrangement.

    kayehl,

Thanks for listening and for the compliments. Regarding the open sound, I'm not doing anything special other than keeping control of the dynamics. The master uses very little compression and most times I use multiband compression to prevent low end compression interfering with other frequencies. It also helps balancing the mix if used in moderation and caution.

    Thanks again.

    Hi Jon,

Yes, Occasional Resemblance is on the CD, and from a subjective standpoint it is one of my preferred tunes.

    Thanks for listening.

Hi Pablo, only had time to listen to one tonight, so I picked 'Occasional Resemblance'. 'cos I liked the title.

Very intriuging stuff this, when the guitar synth* & bass come in really turned the piece on its head, reminded me of Pat Metheny there. The solo later on was quite extraordinary, and I love the you led from that through the arpeggiated section, back to the piano...wonderful.

Fantastic work, consummate musicianship throughout, the arranging of this piece is absolutely stellar.

    * What is that instrument Pablo..sounds like a Chapman Stick at times..?

Hi James, thanks for listening and I'm glad you liked it. Well, that instrument is just my Stratocaster passed through some of the Freeamp effects. But now that you mantion it, I need to get me one of those, they are so cool.

By the way have you seen this video? The guy's playing is awesome
