Is CD duplication is a reliable process??

Last week my daughter participated in a Dancing competition and came first in it….And I was the only one from the family who saw it live ……..The school gave a CD of the dance competition to all the participants. Now I am planning to get that CD duplicated. I would need probably 20 to 25 duplicated CDs and I am thinking of distributing it amongst all my relatives and friends.

I don’t want to compromise in terms of quality at all. So I want to know whether I should go for duplication of CDs or replication. I heard replication ensures better quality. Kindly suggest what should I do…….

    Hi Mate,

20-30 CD's isnt worth going to CD Duplication as far as i know. I would be inclined to burn them on your PC, once the file is loaded into something, say Nero, you can burn multiple copies. A spindle of CD's is only going to be $10.00 or so and a good couple of hours feeding the CD Burner.

Hope this helps, i may have misinterpreted the question though..

Oh and you wont lose quality.

    Cheers

EDIT: i'd be more inclined to rip the file to a Hard Drive and then back it up somehow if you are concerned about losing the file.. And congrats to your Daughter.

Burn the cd at a lower speed, say 20x instead of 40-50 to be extra careful, and you should come out with a great cd to share with your peeps.

That Kunaki is just unbelievably cheap!

I made some calculations when I copied home movie DVD's a while back.

Of the basic elements: Jewel case box, the disc (printed surface), the cover, the most expensive was the INK FOR THE PRINTER (Bubble jet)! I used quality discs (Verbatim/Tayo Yuden) and original inks for maximum fade resistance. To me the total cost was somewhere around 1 euro a piece. It's surely cheaper in the US.

Is this a video file on CD? (I'm assuming so, being of a dance competition). In what format? Is this a roughly cut, home-movie capture of the performance or is it something that's been cleaned up and edited into a more professional presentation?

I'm not a "video guy" at all, but it just occurred to me that all the answers so far sounded appropriate for the usual audio file questions we get here, and I thought there might be other considerations with video.

'Course what do I know? (Hopefully, a real video guy will chime in here shortly).

I take the OP's word for that it's a video CD (even though I feel tempted to believe it's a DVD). I don't know if there's any difference in duplication/replication costs between CD's and DVD's, audio or video. Anyways, if you burn them yourself it makes no difference (if you burn dual layer DVD's unpleasant surprises may occur, though).

CD duplication is something which I would like to suggest you bcoz the quantity you are looking is very minimum ....and the basic difference between CD duplication and replication is the fact that replication is used for large quantity...Visit http://www.liquidbubbleduplication.com if you want a lot of your queries about replication and duplication may get solve....

Are you sure its a CD? If its video, I would think they would have used a DVD.

I'm not sure if the following has been clearly mentioned or not.

You are right in theory that replicated discs provide a most professional and robust final product but bear in mind that if you only require 25 units, then it will be very expensive to go down this route.

Most companies do not replicate CDs for less than 1000 copies, although, a company called Disc wizards provides CD replication for units of 500 and upwards.

The economical route would be to have the CDs duplicated. I wouldn't worry too much about the reliability as these issues where more profound in the early days of CD burners.

What would happen is that you burn a CD in your Cd burner, however some car CD players and hifi CD player would not recognise them.

Things have moved along a great deal and I would say 99% of CD players manufactured in the last 7-10 years can play duplicated CDs just fine. Where the issues do occur are with very old players.

You can read up on more info on the differences between CD Duplication and CD replication

Hope the information is of use to you!

Most companies do not replicate CDs for less than 1000 copies

Allot of them will replicate or duplicate 500 copies, but the price will almost be as much as it would cost for 1,000 copies.

I got a client a quote for 1,000 and 500 and the difference between the 2 was about 8 cents a unit. Thats like $80 dollar difference between 1000 copies and 500 copies. No plant will turn down work, not in these times! They ll just make it worth there while.

    Hi,

... 's isnt worth going to CD Duplication as far as i know. I would be inclined to burn them on your PC, once the file is loaded into something, say Nero, you can burn multiple copies. A spindle of CD's is only going to be $10.00 or so and a good couple of hours feeding the CD Burner.

I'm not sure that the home based stuff and inexpensive CD burners are designed for bulk use. In the process of burning a single copy of over 500 hours of Space Pirate Radio stuff, I went through 2 CD-Rom drives. And I was simply making myself a copy!

In general, with an hour or two of stuff, I think you can do 20 or 30 CD's and go at that. But if it starts going beyond that, I would think that I would take a serious look at some more professional equipment for burning CD's.

There are some folks in here that have studios that might have a better idea, but I would think that a professional burner is probably a lot more accurate than most of the stuff that Windows and most PC's use these days, which is basically cheap and often useless.

As a wise Guy once stated from his holy chapala ... none of the hits, none of the time ... prevents you from becoming just another turkey in the middle of all the other turkeys!
