sound from loops can't be heard

I've installed Music Creator 4 on my laptop. I am able to access everything, but unable to hear the tracks that are prerecorded as a loop initially. Also, when I try to put a sound onto a track, it won't transfer. Any suggestions?

you'll need to give us more info

what loops are you trying to hear and how are you getting them into MC?
what do you mean by "putting sound onto a track and it won't transfer"?
    what is your operating system?
what is your soundcard and computer specs?

Me thinks you are using midi loops...and you will need to learn about inserting soft synths.....just a guess.... do tutorial #8 step by step...exactly as it is given.

    Sound card is Conexant.
What I meant by transferring is copying particular sounds ( i.e. sax ) and trying to paste it onto
another project. For some reason it doesn't work. I thought it would work like Microsoft Excel, but it doesn't. Am I just not able to do this type of copying?
The loops were already on a Latin MIDI.

    I have Windows XP. Laptop

    Thanks

audio loops can be copied and pasted directly and you can even drag them from one project to another just like any other windows application. however, while MIDI loops can be copied and pasted and dragged from one project to another, you are only copying the DATA that way and, as guitarhacker said, you need to learn to insert softsynths in order to hear anything from the MIDI data.

Thanks. I've tryied to access the softsynths because there is that option from the dropbox, so I"ll recheck both projects to make sure each one is in the same dropdown.

    Thanks

I did read #8 tutorial, but still having problems. But, after my second check on everything maybe it will be different.

Are you dragging the MIDI data into a MIDI track? Did you set the MIDI track's properties, i.e. the channel number, patch, and for output, you go to the top of MC and click 'Insert>Soft Synth>TTS-1'. Once the TTS-1 is loaded, you set the MIDI track's output to TTS-1.

New Subject: Copying portions of segments 2008/09/04 17:45:08 (permalink)
I seem to have things working now, but still having trouble with copying certain areas.
The Markers don't help me because I can't quite understand them yet, but I can't seem
to copy ( i.e. from segment 3 to segment 13 of a track ) and have the entire 10 areas to
    paste onto the same track.

    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks

If you are copying a midi loop then you need to tell the program where to copy it and how many times. If you copy a loop from say a disk and then try to paste in MC, a box should pop up and ask, copy from where , this will be easier if you plce the cursor at the location before hitting copy. Then it will ask how many times if the loop is a one bar loop, and you want 10 bars of it say 10.

Thank you. It's from a Midi, but when I tried to tell it the location from and to, I didn't get a popup box, or anything to do this with.
Am I just not looking in the correct place?

To copy a segment or a portion of a clip....you need to split the clip at the beginning and the end...Right click in the track near the point you want to split....a new window opens and lets you select the parameters for the split....click oK and it's split.

you can undo the split if needed. also the split point resolution is ajustable so you can select the exact point where the split should occur.

highlight the clip you created and select copy....then paste it to or drag it to it's new location.

I'll try the split and if it doesn't work, I'll give you, in detail, what I'm trying to do. I miss my producer ( he passed away last year)
His software, you could just repeat the chorus and insert verses, but I don't know what software he was using.
    Thanks

When I right click, nothing shows up that says split. There's an option for a marker.
Is this what you're talking about?

RE: New Subject: Copying portions of segments 2008/09/05 12:14:01 (permalink)
Markers are for placing a marker at specific points, such as a chorus or verse, so if you want to edit or add to or copy a chorus or verse, you don't have to browse through the whole song looking for the part you want to work with. You can go directly to the marker called "Chorus", or whatever you named it.
If I'm reading you right, you want to copy segment 3 (is that a measure?) 10 times so you have 13 repetitions of that segment 3. Is that correct? If so, you'll need a defined clip of segment 3. Use the zoom in tool to enlarge the track so you can see segment 3 better. Use the split tool (looks like a pair of scissors) to split the front of segment 3, and the rear of segment 3 so it can be easily edited. Click the split tool to turn it off. Right-click the segment 3 clip and select properties. Write down the number showing the time the clip begins. Close the properties window. Right-click the clip again and go to 'Edit'. Click 'Copy'. Now right-click in the track you want the clip to be copied and select 'Paste' from the edit menu. You can choose how many times you want to paste the clip, but that may not work well if the clip isn't an exact measure long, so do it one paste at a time, if necessary. The paste menu has some options which you can change, the most important being the time you want the paste to begin, which is why I had you write down the time the original segment 3 clip began.
For instance, if the time that segment 3 began was 3:01:436, and you want it to be in time, the paste-start time for the next measure would be 4:01:436. I'm presupposing that you have the tempo of the project set and are playing in time to the metronome or click/drum track. If you are not playing in time to the project's tempo (a lot of people using audio just start recording without setting the tempo, and when it comes time to edit, all time entries won't match the song's tempo), then you can still paste the clip in an approximate spot, and if it doesn't sound like it's in time, you can drag the clip around until it is in time with the rest of the song.
Read the help file section on "Working With Groove Clips" under the "Using Loops" chapter. When a clip is converted to a groove clip, you can grab the edge of the clip and drag it out as far as you wish and it will repeat for that length.

Thanks. I'll try the split option again and name it chorus and see if that works.
You read me correctly about the segments, so I'll try these now.
    Thanks
