This may have showed up here before, but this new "free"!!! VST equalizer is the bomb.
Best freebie EQ I have ever tried!
No, I don't work for them or anything, just very happy with the results I am getting.

i might be being really stupid, but after looking at the image of the plug, i have no idea what half the controls do. What does "push", "pull" and "B/W" mean? I dont think i have ever seen these controls on an EQ (or any other plugin for that matter).

    thanks!

I've been using the Leftover Lasagna EQ since it's release (it's been available as a winamp plugin for a while now). I just downloaded the MPS plugin, and it seems the Gate EX is the only one they are giving away for free. I will test later...

    Pull = Cut

    Push = Boost

It's a great "freebie". A pseudo-simulation of the vintage Pultec EQ's (highly coveted devices even today). It comes with a brief (but informative) manual in PDF form. The plugin is well worth downloading and learning to use its features.

I'm looking at the Bias website right now, and it appears that the giveaway is a BUY one get one free offer--not a giveaway just for visiting the site.

If I'm wrong, please send the URL for the freebie download page.

My freebie was "GateEx". Just curious to see if that is the one everyone gets or if they are giving them out at random. I would love to have their "Reveal" analysis plugin.

Big thank's for the head up on the free plug - that's cool.

Douglas, mine is the GateEx too - it seems to be the only one on offer - I'd have chosen the Reveal as well; mind you, we can't be fussy at the price!!

    Cheers guys

Well, SONAR's VST scan had errors while scanning, so the GateEX is a no go here. However, I thought I would post what I use with the Pushtec...

    http://rekkerd.org/boosty-updates-rescue-to-v11/

Use it sparingly and you'll love the results. My typical chain is -

    Pushtec
    Rescue
    Compressor
    Limiter

This is what I use to improve MP3s before burning to disc, though this chain could also be used for home mastering.

Yeah - same here, maybe it was too good to be true

Did anyone get it scanned successfully though?

Steve, I scrolled through my VST folder after the scan failed and I noticed that all the Bias plugs have different file extensions than the other plugs in my folder. I uninstalled and reinstalled but they still will not scan correctly

A shame, because this Gate had some promising features that I would have liked to test on some drum tracks I'm working on...

    Thanks for the info blackdogstudio.
I followed that link, and after some surfing around, ended up eventually at Terry West Productions' site. Looks like he has some very intersting VSTs there for downloading free.
Wonder if anyone has tried the Channel plugin: http://www.terrywest.110mb.com/channel.html

"A pseudo-simulation of the vintage Pultec EQ's (highly coveted devices even today)"

This is so true Papa, though the Pushtec plugin does not color the sound just by having it in the chain like the original Pultec units and the UAD-1 version does. The Rescue plugin does color the sound, simply by having it in the chain. It's like these two free plugins were just made for each other...

JV, thanks for the link. I'll def have to check out that channel plug!!!

Black Dog, it doesn't even appear in my VST list in Home Studio. I'll try a re-install later and see if I can scan it manually with the VST Adapter that came with Guitar Tracks - there is a stage in the process where you can adjust the plug-ins properties before the adapter scans it, if I get any joy. I'll post back.

And BTW - get your own screenshots!!!

He he, you are right though - Rescue is nice, I'll try it later with the Pushtec as you suggest.

Here's the option screen I get when I select a plug that the adapter's been pointed at - if I get this far with the BIAS plug I'll see what's in there.

Only joking about the image - feel free to use any of mine - I was just looking at it and I thought 'Wow', this guy's got a 'Mastering VST' project just like mine

    Then the penny dropped

Thanks for the info Steve, I checked to see if maybe some other programs would run this plugin but I get the same error message every time it scans. I am able to view them in my VST folder but they do not show up in the plugin manager. VST hosts as listed in the read me are...

Pro Tools (VST to RTAS), Peak, Cubase, Live, Nuendo, etc...

No mention of SONAR or Cakewalk??? I feel as if they have some bugs to work out yet on these plugins.

Yeah, just joking here too. Actually, this is my first attempt at posting a pic in a thread. Just wanted to get a feel for it so maybe in the future I could post some screenshots. Thanks again Steve!

Hey Black Dog - I've cracked it!

Now if you want to pinch a screen shot of the GateEx working:

I used the installer to remove the 'failed' version of the program - otherwise you only get the chance to 'modify' or 'repair' it.

I ran through the installation again - the only thing I did different to the first time was to click on the other 'trial' plug-ins shown in the installation window and select the bottom of the three options for each one, i.e. not to install them.

The plug is then installed by default into the Cakewalk VST folder, not the shared plug folder. I checked in there and it appeared as a normal .dll file.

I scanned it manually with my VST adapter [the same process is available in Home Studio in the Cakewalk Plug-in Manager BTW] and got a prompt screen to enter the authorization code BIAS sent as an e-mail after I downloaded the original - I definitely didn't get this screen the first time I tried installing it BlackDog:

Now it got weird! The plug appeared and worked fine in Guitar Tracks but Home Studio hadn't recognised it for some reason - I tried to fool SONAR by copying the .dll to a folder I keep all my downloaded VST's in, opened it up and it found it OK.

Now it's working fine in both applications - see if anything I've mentioned sounds different to what you did BlackDog - apart from moving the .dll, the two things I've definitely done different are not installing the other plugs and not trying to use the authorization code before scanning the .dll.

    Hope that helps

    Steve
