Randy and team, nice work. I'm listening in headphones .. good job getting the bass to cut through, nice rounded edge. Nice energy and giving-it-your-all in the vocal performances. James, sa-mokin ... whew .. bet that was fun to do. To me it sounds like the snare and hi-hat are fighting for some of the same frequency space .. i usually hi-pass the hi-hat and cymbals around 500 or so and a touch of verb might help to set them back a bit. Fun rockin' piece.

Bill, thanks so much for listening and for your comments. Yes, James expressed his excitement for doing this right from the start. I hope he wont mind saying this, but he told me this reminded him of his performing days. I had the same feeling too. This one didn't seem like work. (until the mixing started)

I tried to get some separation with the hi-hat and snare, but Pete did his drum tracks with the snare sharing a mic with the hi-hat, and a separate mic under the snare. I'm not schooled enough in eq'ing to separate those out, but would try any suggestions you or anyone might have.

Thanks again
Randy

You're all cooking on gas here folks

And too right Randy - it sounds even better cranked up, although my neighbours don't seem to share my opinion

Marvellous stuff indeed

Steve, thanks for checking this out. Sorry about the neighbors. I'm pretty sure I got my nieghborhoods attention when I started laying down guitar tracks on this one. Decided to record them out of the box, and stuck an SM57 in front of my amp. I wasnt sure the thing would even power up it had been so long.

Thanks J, got some help from some folks that are much better at diagnosing issues than I am. Amazing how such small changes in eq can make such a huge difference.

Great song - it sounds like it's ready for FM rock radio! I really like the vox on the chorus - good stuff man.

Randy - Flo say this song has a bit of a Bruce Springsteen vibe to it so she likes it. That's her 'professional' crtique?? She likes your 'rough around the edge vox' and Linda's harmonies. Anyways, I like the subtle changes made to the mix. Well done!

Alkie, thanks for listening. Yeah, Linda has a great voice and was great to work with. She's a real pro. I like the quote, and I'm always up for a good Ponzi scheme.

Taylor, we appreciate your comments. I'm afraid right here is as close as I can get to fm radio.

Larry, please tell your beautiful, highly intelligent, wife Flo, that I really appreciate her listening, and for the kind comments. The woman is obviously a saint in waiting, not only for her appreciation of my music, but for her tireless patience, as exhibited by her tolerating the likes of you. So nice of you to comment on the mix. Give Flo a hug for me, would you?

Randy, Chunky bass, great vox, excellent mix and performance, whats not to like. I think your vocals are fantastic I can almost see the performance. ( if that makes sense) I know this song well, and I think you gave John a run for his money.

Still sounding good Randy!

So when we doing another one? We could continue the 'paper' theme and do 'Paper in Fire'

drumstixkev, thanks for checking this out. Glad you liked this version of it. I was going for a "live" type sound, so I'm happy you got that vibe.

James, I was thinking a metal version of "Paper Roses". I've always felt Marie Osmonds rock chops were very under appreciated.

The guitar work is lovely. The music(melody) is good. The mix is good. Vocals could maybe just blend a bit more.

Great production Randy, it does have a live sound to it. I actually listened to all your stuff, was a good listen. New Shoes? Is that an old cover? I remember hearing a version by Puaulo Nutini (sp?) did someone do it before? Anyway your version is great too!

Thanks Ed, New Shoes was one I first heard with my daughter, who said I should try it. We saw Paulo doing it live, on tv. Its one of his. I used the same drummer on that one as is on Paper Thin.

So glad you stopped by bud, and thanks again.
