GTP3/Overdubbed tracks dont playback in sync?

I am new to the world of digital recording and forums so bare with me please :) Im using GTP3 with the M-Audio MobilePre USB. Im not having a problem getting sound recorded, but i find when i layer tracks and push playback the two tracks do not play in sync? They are playing almost a second apart from eachother. Could this a latency issue? I also have the SoundBlaster Aud4 in my PC but all recording is being done through the MobilePre USB. How can i fix this problem? It seems GTP3 and the MobilePre USB need to be better synched together. All input would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
Chris

    Welcome Chris,
Yes, that looks like a latency driven problem. Windows default settings are usually about 500ms(1/2 a second). WDM or ASIO drivers will give you the best latency options. You should be able to get 10ms or less with the M-Audio running ASIO drivers.
Are you using the M-Audio for playback, or the Soundblaster? Ideally, you want to use one card for both. With ASIO, you must use only one.
Tell us more about your computer, CPU, RAM, etc.
The problem is mostly hardware related, and once you get set up properly, you should be in good shape.

That would be my guess as to cause of the problem, recording thru the M-Audio and playback thru the Soundblaster.

Ok cool thats what i was thinking was the problem. I believe its set to MME. And i am useing the SoundBlaster for the playback. How can i use the Moblie Pre for play back? I can understand how using just one card for both recording and playback could work.

    Hi there Chris

Open GT3 and from the menu bar, select Options>Audio - click on the General tab - what do you see in the Playback Timing Master and the Recording Timing Master fields?
