Pluto

This is the first piece I ever composed that used a full orchestra.

I composed this in Sibelius and it uses the samples from there. In time I hope to update this with much better samples.

Here it is
http://www.box.net/shared/re4b00qkh9

The piece starts out with Pluto just enjoying himself out in space. Then the idiots on Earth decide Pluto is no longer a planet, so the other planets start laughung at him and taunting him with "Sorry Pluto your no planet." This continues until when shortly after the long held note Pluto responds with (in the bass) "I don't really care". Finally the others agree and life continues in the solar system.

This has always been one of my favorites.

Comments are welcome.

Nicely done...must have been a challenging project. Would be a sense of satisfaction to get all that down.

Ron, Lots ' o dynamics in this! I had the speakers cranked and could feel this go thru my bones in certain passages. Very BIG sounding. Great instrumentation used in this. Music fitting for a beautiful Sunday morning in spite of all the chaos in the solar system! Pluto looks at the earth fools and says "I stab at thee" then goes about his orbit once again...... Well done maestro!

That was one of the best kiper belt objects I've ever heard. It is no longer a planet as I'm sure you know.

You guys that do this type of music never cease to amaze me, really, it's beautiful.

You know Robby, I think that is the highest compliment you have ever given me. Thank you for it.

Do I feel stupid or what?

I have composed pieces that bear the same names as Holst has done, just nowhere near as good.

I enjoyed this very much - isn't there a move to make Pluto a non-planet? I thought I'd read it somewhere (so it must be true!).

Pluto is not a planet, it used to be, it is now an ice giant, kiper belt object, blah blah blah, something like that. It's not a planet :-(

    Robby

Pluto is now considered to be a Dwarf Planet along with the asteroid Ceres (found between Mars and Jupiter) and Eris and a few other objects in the Kuiper Belt. Pluto is the largest found so far in the Kuiper Belt. But much farther out in the OOrt Cloud there could be others even larger than Pluto.

Size is not the only factor in the decision of what an object is called. Pluto would be a Planet if it had cleared its orbit of all other objects, but since its orbit intersects that of Neptune, it has not cleared its orbit.

So although Pluto is not a planet, it is a dwarf Planet.

Since when was Pluto a planet.

Everyone knows he's a big dopey dog, a big dog yeah but hardly a Planet...

Whether set to a biography of a cartoon dog or an exploration of the planets this piece would certainly add incredible dynamics to any visuals.

    Stunning as ever Ron.

Ron, Great stuff. I don't think you need any better files for this, it is great as is and there is no need to change it. Now, you may want to do a different piece with some different files, but leave this alone. Nice piece. John

I love the fact that you did not compress it much. This piece is beautiful and would have been hurt a lot if you had removed the dynamics. (as is the style these days)

It is very nice indeed. I don't know how you keep all the parts straight!? Impressive.

I have been sitting on it for a few years now while waiting for better samples.
Now that I have them I just haven't taken the time to work on it again because I also like it as is.

    Erik

I rarely ever compress my works. It just takes away from the orchestra.

I don't worry much about keeping the parts straight except when my muse is drunik. Then it is a pain for sure.

    Walt

I have some friends that are just as far outside of the box as I am. They just use different sequencers so I don't have to compete with them here.

    Thanks guys
