MOTU Midi Express XT Parallel shows as PC Flyer?

If anyone has seen this problem, how is it solved?

My parallel 8-port Midi Express XT shows up only as a 2-port PC Flyer.

I used the parallel micro express for a number of years.... great unit when it got set-up. First thing is make sure you have the latest XP drivers if that's what you're using. The problem I had was doing the install of the drivers EXACTLY as they are recommended from the motu sight. The hardest part was making sure that the uninstall of the wrong drivers was fully complete. It's difficult, Because microsoft in it's wisdom decides to take over the process with plug and play and you have to interupt the auto install and manually install the drivers. The timing of it all can get exasperating. I'd sometimes cycle uninstall and reinstall 5- 6 times until everything synced up right. Hang in there,,, when you do get it worked out..they're one of the best interfaces you can get.

I've had the problem before on another computer, but somehow got it working. That was a few years ago and I have no clue how it happened. Yes, I've been using the MIDI Express XT for a while on other systems.

This new system has no on-board Parallel port, so I had to get a PCI card with a parallel port. It is called an ECP port, so that should work, I think. Unfortunately, there is no way to adjust it's settings like you can in the motherboard BIOS on board that have a parallel port. I do have the "Use any interrupt" option set for the port in Windows XP.

By the way, I'm using the 2.51 MIDI driver from MOTU.

Could be, though I hate to think there is really no solution on this.

I wonder if there's such a thing as a usb to parallel converter. I had the same situation when I upgraded my DAW - no parallel port - It's resting nicely in it's box and I used the one in my FA-66 - subbed out to a breakout midi box. Works well for me but this all coincided with going in the box with a lot of synths and out board midi processors. I let the breakout box do all the routing and send a single in and out to the DAW.

Yes, there is such a beast, and I had thought about trying one, but I went for the Parallel PCI card.

If anyone has ever used a Parallel MIDI interface with one of those converters, I would like to know how it worked.
