Swapping mobo... Any suggestions?

I am going to be replacing my ASUS P5Ke-Wifi with a Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3R, with the hope to get rid of some issues I have been having with my system. I have read different threads regarding the GA mobos.

Any words for the wise? Things to look out for? Drivers?

Thanks

    tazman,

Good choice. I am using Gigabyte as well. I am using the Lynx 2 in-8 out card, 2b I think. I had major issues with SONAR and Lynx and went through some really difficult times with getting Cakewalk to recognize the problem. Some on the forum may remember this conflict earlier this year. Anyway, the motorboating was fixed in the next patch. So, I hope this resolves your issues too. SONAR and Lynx are both great products and I'm not changing anything anytime soon.

    Roberto,
I haven't been following all of your threads, so forgive me if I'm stating the obvious... Among your system tweaks, you did try disabling the wi-fi at the BIOS level, didn't you? (It's quite common for folks to only do their tweaks from device manager).

Now that I think of it I did have some others issues a few months ago, don't know if they were system spikes. I would be mixing\ editing and I would get this "Fatal Error Occurred" with SONARPDR.exe error. I reported this to SONAR and they got back with me in about a week and suggested I do a minidump and send this to them. I did and they came back to say it was the driver for the Lynx. So, I downloaded the latest driver from Lynx and have not had that issue again. Of course now that I've said that it will return. When you say spike issues, what happens?

    Tazman,
I am not sure what issues you are having but this is what happened to me. I originally had an ASUS mobo and when I installed SONAR ver 6 the infamous "motorboating" started. Then I got a Lynx 2B card and the "motorboating" got worse. Not immediately making the connection that the problem may not have been the Lynx card, I built a whole new computer with the the Gigabyte as the mobo. Well, the problem did not go away. So, again, I'm not sure of your current issues because they're not mentioned in this post but I sure hope what happened to me does NOT happen to you! So, good luck. Oh yeah, I really like your music, keep it up!

    Tazman,

So, the problem is drop outs? Okay, I was reading another post about drop outs and their problem was the hard drive was somehow changed from DMA mode to PIO mode. Have you checked this setting lately?

    Good Luck,

Have you solved this problem yet, or are you still working on it? Thought I would check in to see how things were.

It sounds like he was having some drop-out issues. Must be pretty bad drop-outs. I know this guy in Houston who has like, the fastest computer on the planet and he still has drop-outs. I have them too sometimes and just figured if the guy in Houston is having them then they are just a fact of life in the world of digital audio and computers. At least it's not "motorboating" anymore since the last SONAR patch!
