Reason 4 Eats CPU

So...

AMD Athalon XP 2000+ 1.67G CPU
1.75G RAM
Edirol UA-25 AISO drivers
Windows XP Home
Sonar 7 Producer

I record audio and play it back and the CPU hovers around 10%. Add Reason 4 to the mix and the CPU maxes. What the hell?

Raise your latency/buffers to lower cpu consumption. Try WDM driver mode also, they might be better than ASIO mode. They were for me when i had that card a few years ago.

Also, audio tracks take a lot less CPU than VIs do. Turn off Cool 'n Quiet in your BIOS (but have the latest drivers installed) and have your power scheme in Windows set to always on...

    What's in yer rack?

When you first rewire an empty R4 it should be barely discernable maybe 2% or so.

If you've got half a dozen hefty Thor patches set to run in the default project when it loads that'll prolly max out yer CPU right there. More details may help.

the pc your using is a single core amd ?

it all depends on what synths your using..e.g. if your using loads of thor's it will seriously eat the cpu.

also the fact it's not optimised as well as it could be for AMD cpu's.. well dual cores + , my machine is decent enough and it won't play their test song (used in their trailer) which really pushes the cpu

also your running the latest update for R 4?

Hmmm.. I rewire Reason 4 into Sonar on my 3 year old old Dell Inspiron 9300 Centrino with a single core 2.16Ghz/2GbRAM soul and it usually takes up less CPU than using the equalient of synths as VST or DX inside Sonar...
