AKG C4000B

I bought this when I had no idea what I should get. A music shop I frequented for years had it (best one they carried), so I bought it. Anyway, it sounds good, but after reading on a few other models it seems I may do better for less money.

What else compares in the $700ish price range?

That's getting pretty close to the cost of a C414-BXLS... which is a great sounding extremely versatile mic.

That's interesting...because I used one of those before on a project (in another studio). I liked it, and it is very similar to what I have in terms of tone (although the C4000B is a little more mid-focused).

The C414-blxs was what the studio I frequented had as the "Go to" mic until they got a Neumann; and yes, the Neumann sounded better. So, thanks for the reply, very helpful as I'm familiar with that one.

IMO, The C414-BXLS is the best C414 that AKG has made.
I have a pair of them... that get extensive use.
