Rebuilding my SONAR DAW... Question!

I have heard some people say that I don't want to have the JMicron controller running on a DAW. My DVD Burner is IDE and in order to use it, I need to have the JMicron running. If it's aonly running hte DVD Burner, does anyone know if it could cause issues or it is ok? I could get a SATA Burner, but if I don't have to, I would rather not to.

Thanks,

I hae no problem running a JMicron controller for IDE duties in an ASUS P5K.

I wonder if this depends on the board/manufacturer. For example, when I was building my Abit IP 35 Pro based DAW a few months ago, the Abit forums were filled with horror stories about non-working IDE controllers (and sometimes, data corruption!). I was going with all SATA devices anyway, so was only half-reading these posts, but I seem to remember that the fixes involved installing the MS controller drivers over the JMicron, and/or using a certain BIOS version.

Now, as I said, I may have interpreted it all wrong, but that's what I remember.

Of course, it seemed like they were also coming up with a new BIOS fix every other week, so AFAIK these issues no longer exist (I'm stable with an older BIOS v14).

    Roberto,

I re-read your post and it sounds like you're saying it's JMicron drivers or nothing re: your IDE drive. I believe you can install the MS IDE drivers as an alternative (if the JMicron ones are causing a problem).

Edit: I found this article, which might help:
