Why doesn't my windows media player work properly

I seem to keep losing windows media player in Vista, it is something to do with Sonar grabbing the driver I think, I have tried changing from asio to wdm, I can see that it is playing it in the interfaces settings panel the vu's are moving no sound though?

maybe you use another sound card on your pc? , and it's outputting to that instead..

just set your default card to your asio soundcard, in windows control panel.

Go into sonar's options/audio/advanced and click share drivers with other programs. also, depending on your sound card, you may need to set it to 44.1Khz manually. The better cards will change the sample rate automatically.
ASIO and WDM have nothing to do with WMP.

if you do run sonar in + say have something on in the background it will cause hassle , volume wise etc.

if you must use both , and you have an internal sound card as well and thats assigned to other normal windows things.. e.g. if I chop up loops in recycle in the background, it uses the onboard card.

Driver modes have nothing to due with WMP. He was making a statement that WMP is crap

have tried the suggestions still not working though?

Now you need to go into your window sounds and tell us what everythnig is set to. There is one thnig in there not set right and guessing will take too long

I've seen similar issues a few days ago..
watched some youtube videos,.. the 1st would playback fine, the second would be muted..
I installed a new system drive, just deactivated windows-auto-update, 'cause I thought it might be related to some security-update. It's too early to say if these issues are gone, but I am very confident.
As CJ said, 1st thing to do is to enable "share drivers" in Sonar.
2nd, if you use i.e. a FF400/800, you need to define another audiostream for your windows applications in the "sound and audio devices" settings in the system-management. (i.e. FF 3&4) (while Sonar uses FF 1&2). If these digital streams collide then you get all kind of problems.
3rd, reset your audiodevice (turn it off/on)
