is it possible to use 2 mic preamps together?

well i just received my Solo 610 Preamp and i was looking at the booklet that came with it and it gives you instruction on how to hook it up. i was reading that you can hook it up to a 2nd preamp. but i dont know if i can use another mic preamp ''ISA One''.

just want to know if its ok and will not damage my mic or the preamps.

Solo-610 has Fat Tone/Flat
ISA One has silky warm sound

    where were you reading this?

personally I can't imagine you would need to do this. the Solo-610 should have plenty of gain all by itself.

yea but ISA One has the Silky Smooth Warm sound.

im not going to try it. might damage my AKG Mic.

and its not the gain. just wondering if i can warm it up with ISA One.

MIC/LINE - use LINE when sending signal to a line level input (ADC, Tape machine); use MIC when sending signal to a mic level input (mixer 2nd preamp)

You can't use a second one, at least not the microphone level input, it would simply overdrive that input and distort (not the good kind) and may even damage the second preamp. Now,.. if the second preamp had a "line" level input where you were just using it as a second gain stage for it's tone then, yes you could do that.

As for damage the mic would not be at risk as long as it was hooked to the first preamp correctly but the second preamp could be damaged if too much signal went into the microphone input. In fact even a microphone can damage a preamp. That's why some have a "pad" or attenuation control to lower the output of the mic when used in front of a very loud source.

Microphones put out a very tiny signal, that's why we need a preamp. The microphone input of a preamp is expecting that little tiny signal... NOT a line level signal.

OK... ! I see what they mean. I just read that the Solo 610 output can be switched to either line or MICROPHONE level. If you set it to output mic level then yes, you could hook that into the mic input of a second preamp. Just make darn sure you have it set correctly.

There are other ways to "warm up the sound". Voxengo has a number of free plugins that are supposed to do that and more. Check out the site for the list of free plugins...read the specs and try one of them....

With a plugin there is no danger to your mic.

I wouldn't try to run one pre into the other...
Rather, enjoy each of those preamps for what it *is*. (they're both nice - in different ways)
