my new Avatar guitar cabinet

well, got my new cab last a couple of days ago...
earlier than when i thought it'd show up.... Avatar, man, they crank em out, and get em to you FAST!
awesome cab.

here's a first-blush review.

Spec:
The Vintage G112 cab dimensions are 24"W x 20.5"H x 11"D. 15mm Birch Plywood. Weight is approximately 45 lbs depending on speakers.
(mine feels lighter than this, which is a good thing.)

It features a slanted front speaker baffle board to point the speaker up slightly towards the player.
The construction is voidless Birch Plywood with black tolex, white piping, black strap handle and wheat grille cloth.
It has a closed back config.

It has a rear metal jack plate with dual 1/4 inch jacks for daisy chaining with other cabs.
Switchcraft jacks and thick oxygen free internal speaker wire.

The 12 inch speaker is rear loaded with T Nuts.

i loaded it with a Celestion HERITAGE G12H, which is the british hand-made greenback.
"The new Celestion G12H is a perfect recreation of the low resonance model,
right down to the voice coil former material, glue formulations and vintage, solder-only tag panel."

this has now become my favorite speaker.


it's not a 'perfect cab', but for the money, i don't think i've ever seen anything better built.

great tolex, awesome grille cloth, and the cab, while light, feels thick and full of tone.
the strap/handle, feels a bit skinny and light-weight, and cheap...
but it's actually plenty for the cab weight, which is really pretty light.
it feels lighter, than it looks.

the baffle, tilts the speaker slightly upwards, so when i'm standing in front of it, i hear it much better than my standard flat-mount cabs.....
and, it projects the sound 'around' me, rather than lazer-beam 'at me', which is a strange thing, from a closed back cab.

it almost sounds like it's ported in the back, but it isn't.
i was going to add a 'beam blocker' to this cab, but after i've heard it now, i may just leave it off.

the speaker...

well, i gotta say, for an un-broken-in celestion greenback, its very smooth.
the extended low end, is PERFECT for what i'm looking for.
it matches the cabinet perfectly, for getting low end thump out of a single 12" driver and cab.....

in fact, i dialed UP my presence on the amp, whereas normally i dial it down....

there is a clarity of the low mids, i've never heard from my boogie before.

in fact, it changed the gain structure on my head, because of the tone characteristic of the speaker itself.
i was actually able to dial the gain back a bit, which is preferable to me, for clarity with girth.

my pedals, actually sound more 'clear' in their effect-sound......


i'm very pleased.
can't wait to record it.

BTW, how do you like the Weber attenuator. I recently sold my Hot Plate... just didn't like the way it affected the sound.
