The Last Version Of Sonar I Buy Will Include...

This is a variation on the usual wishlist threads. What features would need to be added for you to never have to upgrade your copy of Sonar again?

Since engine/performance things like "a faster audio engine" or "better core balancing" are just given, no need to reiterate those. No "new plugins" or bug fixes either. Stick to features. I'm also not including the few new features we know will be in S8 (i.e. instrument tracks).

Here are mine:

1. Improved transient detection on Audio Snap. Perhaps detection presets (i.e. telling AS that this is a bass track, or drums, or a vocal, etc.) are the way to go.
2. The ability to copy and paste Audio Snap transients between tracks and link them by...
3. Group editing. This is essential for editing multi-track instruments.
4. Auto-assignment of outputs on VSTi's with mono AND stereo outs. Think BFD2.
5. VST MFX support.
6. True stereo panning.
7. Tape style monitoring.
8. Varispeed playback/recording. I should also have the option of slowing down playback by semi-tones as well. I also want to be able to automate this for speed up/slow down effects.
9. An easier way to tempo map a song using Audio Snap. Currently I have to click the Audio Snap properties, the Set Measure/Beat button, select the measure/beat, hit ok, click back on the track view, hit tab to get to the next transient. Way too many steps...
10. A latency slider on the toolbar.
11. An "all effects off" button for tracking at reduced CPU.
12. A major ACT overhaul, that allows me to dictate what parameters I want assigned to what controllers. Make it work more like a front end for a good MIDI learn implementation like it was sold as being.
13. The Project 5 arpeggiator.
14. Sub-foldering.
15. Improved notation.
16. A "Lyrics view" that would allow the singer to see the lyrics for the part of the song they are on from afar. This would require some manual work, but I'd happily invest the time up front to have this.

    1. Native RX2 / REX support (not via vst's etc)

I'm not holding my breath, but it would be a nice surprise.

and your number 12, but ACT forgets for me sometimes

Is there a simple way to....?
    Prolly not.
I'll always be upgrading as I am and always will be GASsy and SASsy.

Seriously, I'm not sure what would make me never upgrade as today's thoughts are limited by today's views. Tomorrow something new will come along changing my view.

You might want to change that to "the only version of Sonar that I will buy that will keep me upgrading every year until I die, in which case I will pass on my love of Cakewalk and Roland to my kids and grandkids".

    Yeah for suggestions!

    1. I wouldn't complain if it were possible.
    2. In My Dreams! if you've ever tried to audio snap drums, this is would be HUGE!
    3. I don't see a rush on this one: move the multi-tracks so they are next to each other, draw a box around the clips (or track folder) and edit away.
    4. I've never tried that one, but sounds like a simple fix.
    5. I have no idea about this one.
    6. I think this one is in Sonar8
    7. Hopefully its in Sonar 8, but better be in 8.01/8.02 if not.
    8. Hopefully its in Sonar 8, but better be in 8.01/8.02 if not.
    9. would be nice
    10. I could see others enjoying this
    11. I like, but if it could remember which plugs were on/off (rather than all off/all on) would be the most useful.
    12. I'd never benefit
    13. same as 12
    14. Hopefully its in Sonar 8, but better be in 8.01/8.02 if not.
    15. I see a lot of people really care about this one.
    16. only in the very last version of Sonar

a virtual mastering engineer avatar genie that will make my mixes sound like a million bux. and it will be named after me: Stevenopolis

when you insert the plug-in on your master bus the GUI pops up as a golden lamp that you rub with the mouse to get the genie out. Then he grants your wish and magically masters your tracks!

if i had that i wouldn't need to buy another version of SONAR ever.

oh and a region list/history window would be nice

That's BullSh%T Stevvy... and you know it!

I would focus on the up and coming... like tools that make 5.1 and 7.1 surround mixing easy and accurate as all current formats will eventually be multi-track formats... how about an easier way to Export your project... why di I need to select what I want and what I don't want to export... this should be a given... I want to Export the ENTIRE MIX PLEASE from START to FINISH... and if I want to select a single thing or a couple things to bounce.. use a solo or mute button or use the "bounce" option... it is seriously ridiculous.

+1 to more support for surround mixing, specifically, add VST3 support so we can use multiple input/output plugins, and it would be magic to have a Dolby Digital encoder bundled - but that ain't gonna happen!

I'll have three fingers of Glenlivet, with a little bit of pepper... and some cheese.

    1) Undo/Redo functions for Console/Mixing tweakings (volume levels, ecc...) wolud be a nice touch...

    2) ...but, most of all, RETROSPECTIVE MIDI RECORDINGS.... not to waste those inspiration moments that never come back..!!!

LP64 EQ/Multiband are my biggest beefs, they need to get working on them big times, uncomfortable to work with, on the verge of buying ozone 4 or the sonalksis mastering bundle (which are 64 bit processors as well) boost 11 needs booted out the window, a limiter with a RELEASE parameter if you don't mind please, the comp on the percussion strip needs a make up gain, yeah improvements on the audio snap, like the man sais presets of some kind for different tracks!!!! P.S a global filter and envelope for rapture please
