The official UAD-2 appreciation thread!

I've been using my UAD-2 solo for a little over a week with Sonar 7.02... As a result, I felt obligated to make this thread congratulating the whole UA team on making the UAD-2 such an amazingly solid product! I often work with the 'extra buffering' mode unchecked and it works great! I love the fact that I can keep my using UAD-1's as well! Also the live-track mode is very impressive! I can't wait to get my Quad and use it with Sonar 8 - which has been advertised to feature even better low-latency performance! Can't wait for the new plugs on the horizon as well... I know the Moog is gonna be outstanding!

It is truly a great time for audio! Let the appreciation continue!

I'm with you B San. Got my quads three days ago and they are SMOKIN'!!! Nice to not have to worry about instance number.

How did you get the extra buffering unchecked? Mine doesn't allow me to do that in Sonar at all - but I don't have "Sonar Compatibility" checked, b/c with the '1s it actually made the cards perform worse. Do you have SCM checked?

    Thanks.

    Treefight,
You're running multiple quad cards? How many? Are you even approaching max dsp usage? I have one quad, pulled my two UAD-1s (I needed the PCI slots) and can't imagine running low on horsepower. Are you using nothing but UA plugs on everything?

You can uncheck the extra buffering in the UAD configuration settings... I also have SCM checked in my UAD-1 setup as it has allieviated CPU munching issues...

Gees, multiple quad? I barely can put a dent in the DSP usage of my 1 quad. I have been using lots of 1073's in my mix and it's all running smooth. When I turn on live-track mode it does put a pretty good hit on my CPU (quad core), but I had a lot of Neve plugs running when I tested it.

Using 22 plugs in my latest mix....http://www.soundclick.com/util/downloadSong.cfm?ID=6892515 (shameless plug)

Warning: Contains BCM(Blatantly Christian Music )

You decide if they work or not...

Got 1073's, a LOT of LA2A's, 1176LN's, a 33609 and the Precision Maximizer(master bus) and the Plate 140....Oh, and Nigel...

I have to say that the PM is the most incredible thing...I used to use Wavehammer from SF. Then moved to the Ozone suite in SF9 last year. I decied to trial the UAD PM and put in on the master bus. Holy Cow! This song was mixed with the "50-50" preset. The only thing I changed was to enable the limiting. I was simply amazed at how it "glues" the mix together.

I wasn't initially impressed with the Plate 140...it seemed to be really hard to dial in a sound that I liked. It is on the vocals in the song above. I think it will take some time for me to get used to it and figure it out.

So now I have to get the Neve Bundle MkII, the plate 140 AND now the Precision bundle...this Quad is starting to cost me a lot more than I bargained for!

On another note...I haven't really messed with the configuration options...mainly because it just works as is but also because I haven't tried low latency performance yet(buffers at 512 in SONAR). The only quirk I had was that, on a surround bus that I had 4 LA2A's(to cover 5.1 surround), if I added the LP64 EQ to that track, the UAD would throw the "some plugins are disabled" error. Once I deleted the LP64 it worked fine. Not sure what was going on there. Doesn't happen on a stereo bus.

I wanted to jump in here.
UAD sent me a FREE UAD-2 card because the UAD-1 I bought with Sonar died and Cake wouldn't help me get an RMA for it.

Anyways, I installed the UAD-2 solo alongside a Mackie UAD-1 I bought to use while waiting for the new card to come in. I must have used about 25 plugs w/o working the cards over 45% each. This is all just estimations because I didn't actually count anything, but I wasn't forced to freeze any tracks and was able to get to mixing and experimenting. It was soooo nice. I'm jealous of the quad guys, but even a solo is such a nice little improvement in workflow.

I'm saving me vouchers till the next set of plugs come out. I'm crossing my fingers for that EL Fatso. But I might demo the Neve 88RS if the mood strikes.

Nice to hear you actually ended up better off than when you started. You are going to like the extra power and added features of the UAD-2 anyway.

Yea... UAD's support is amazing. Those guys are always a pleasure to speak to. Another reason why I love the UA cards.
