Midi sequencing hardware suggestions

My Brothers,

I'm running Pro Audio 8.0 and my next challenge is to find midi sequencing hardware to send these .wrk files to so I can use them live through our sound system.

I have the songs edited and are in .wrk files, but I want to upgrade the sequencing hardware. I now have a Roland SC 880, but it's on its last legs and I need to replace it.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

    summit111,
I'm not sure what you mean by "midi sequencing hardware"? The Roland SC-880 is a midi synth that generates sounds when you send midi data/events to it from PA8. I would interpret "midi sequencing hardware" to mean a hardware device to which you can send a standard midi file (SMF) and then play the midi file at a later time, without the use of a PC. Many keyboard/synth combinations will do that.

If you had such a device, then you would use to PA8 to export your .wrk files as SMFs and then move the SMFs to the device. How you do that is highly dependent on the device being used.

So, let's be clear about what you are trying to do before going any further.

    Larry,

    Thanks for the response.

I have many songs I arranged through Pro Audio 8.0 and are in the .wrk format. I send them from my PC through my Roland SC 880 and then into the sound system for backing tracks.

The Roland SC 880 is old and needs to be replaced. Is there something else I can use in it's place. I hope this is a little clearer.

    Thanks,
    Ernie

There are many choices including external sound modules (like the SC-880) and internal software synths. Unfortunately, with PA8 you really can't use internal software synths very well. With a newer product like Sonar or Sonar Home Studio you can use DXi and VSTi based products (internal synths, etc.).

If you want to stay with PA8 then look to an external midi sound module to replace the SC-880.
The SC-880 was probably a very high quality synth. WHy do you think it needs to be replaced? DO you want better sounds?

In any case, a google of sound modules will turn up quite a few with links to well known stores like sweetwater.com and zzounds.com.
I think the SC -880 was a GM (General Midi) device and most modern synths will adhere to the same standards so your .wrk files will play with correct sounds.

Whether or not a particular synth will sound better than the SC-880 is not something I can comment on.
