Can you identify this mic?
It's for sale on craigslist locally: I recognize the mic, I just can't remember the model number. The seller is suggesting it's an Omni dynamic mic, and the closest I can find to it is the RE50B... but those are almost always black, aren't they? Any help is greatly appreciated! Corey Edit: Upon further review, it's starting to look like this is a set of Realistic 33-1070b's, which are built by Shure as EV RE50 knockoffs, but with slightly better response. Thought I recognized them, but the color was throwing me off! LOL Corey

You would have to verify the brand because the Radio Shack ones look just like the EV.

Frank, none of the EV's I've been able to find have the rubber guard. Did EV ever have a version with that big rubber band around the head? If they're the real deal, I'm DEFINITELY buying them. If they're the Realistic knockoffs, I'm PROBABLY buying them anyway. The Realistics are being listed as "unknown gems" on a number of sites I've found. I see them in person on Saturday. I'll let you all know. Thanks for the response, J Boy and Frank! If anyone has additional info, feel free to chime in! Corey

Corey You may be right.. check out this link... http://www.coutant.org/7a.html The Radio Shack ones did have the rubber thing.... so these must be Radio Shack. I've used one of the Radio Shack ones and I would not call it an unkown gem at all. But then again I didn't have any good preamps back then so it might be OK with a good pre. The big question is... what do you use an omni dyanmic for in a studio situation ?

Yeah... or drum overheads if you need a more distant, LoFi, or tape like sound... could be just the thing. You would just need a good room to record in and some good preamps. Worth a try.

I have a Pair of Black EV RE50's, but for many years they certainly available in a plated satin silver as well as the less expensive too produce black paint version. I agree that those mics do not look exactly like a EV RE50: They obviously have a label clearly visible in the photo... can't you ask the seller what they are? FWIW, I think the EV RE50 is a fantastic sounding mic. best regards, mike

Mike: I asked for model info from the seller: No response. Lance: Location recording. I have a need for some decent mics in doing special fx recording. I'd also try them on drum OH's, and just about anything I can think of. Two mics for $20 might be a great deal, or... it might include a loud flushing sound! Who knows! Frank and J Boy: I have a small but good sounding room. I also have a non-treated dining room that sounds AMAZING for hand percussion, horns, etc., which I use now and then. We kinda record all over the place here! LOL I'm calling him in about 30 minutes, after I load up for my gig today. Hopefully I'll get a chance to try these out and post a review... Corey
