Got you and yes, you had mentioned it!
Here's an idea for you Bill - it'll certainly give you some beats and loops you can use to jam over and even use in your projects, in conjunction with some live work on the keyboard for the fills etc.
There's a bit of work to do but it might be worth it - the idea will work in GT2 but you'll have to create a new 'loop' for every project at a different tempo, in GT3, which supports 'ACID loops' and 'Groove Clips' you'll only need to create one loop; ACID loops and Groove Clips will automatically stretch or shrink to your project's tempo without changing pitch!
When you get GT3, open up a project and hook up your Yamaha.
Arm track 1 and then record the kick drum sound; then disarm track 1, arm track 2 and record the snare and so on down until you've recorded as many parts of the keyboards kit.
I've mocked this project up with some samples Doc did for me a while back showing Kick, Snare and a Ride Cymbal; the three waveforms are the samples I've imported, but you would record them from your Yamaha:
Now turn off the snap to grid function, zoom in and split each clip just as the waveform starts:
Here I've trimmed all three clips to about a single bar in length:
Now we can begin to create a one measure long clip using the samples - copy the samples in turn and paste them into a new track [track 4 in this example] on the beats of the bar you want them to play - this is the result of adding the kicks and the snare and then bouncing [combining in GT2] the parts to one continuous clip:
It now sounds like this:

My home made one bar measure now sounds like this:
http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6926330 Now you can export this clip to a folder of your choice so it can be imported into a GT project anytime you like.
Once imported, you'll want to be able to play your clip at the project tempo. To do this, you need to turn it into a Groove Clip - right click on it and select 'Groove Clip Looping' from the menu:
If you hover your mouse pointer at the right hand edge of the clip, a small rectangular icon with an arrow will appear, when it does you can literally drag the clip to the right with your mouse - as you drag, the loop will keep copying itself until you stop - you can lengthen or shorten it as many times as you like.
Here I've dragged my new loop out to eight measures; as this is a Groove Clip I'd set the tempo of the project to 180bpm and the new drum track will play at that speed:
Now it sounds like this:
http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6926334 You can make as many of these 'standard' beats as you want Bill and embellish the track using your keyboard as I said before.
