Pitch - Bend

Does anyone have a step by step on how to bend a note in Music Creator 4?

Never heard of bending a note in MC4... Me thinks that has to be done on the instrument..as in bending a string up... or in using the pitch wheel on a midi keyboard.... but I might be wrong... there's still alot to learn here...

If it's possible, I've not heard about it or read about it in the tutorials...

    I wouldn't wager against it...I'll bet there's a work around....

With MIDI, it is possible to enter controller events like pitch bend. I've tried it with limited success. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Probably something I did wrong, but since I have a wheel, I didn't need to master it. Read the "Editing MIDI Events and Controllers" section of the help file. I'll do that, too.

Okay, did a little experimenting. On your MIDI track, note the places you want to bend the notes if you have more than 1. In the track view, right-click on the track; it will turn black and give you some options. Look for 'Create MIDI envelope>MIDI>Control', select 'Wheel'.
A line will appear through the middle of the track. At the note(s) you want to bend, right-click on the line and select 'Add Node'. A dot will appear on the line. This is the node. Do it again at the point you want the note to return to it's original pitch. And again between the 2 nodes. Now click and hold the middle node and drag it up or down. That's the bend. It will take a few tries to get it bent to the degree you want it, but try it until it's right.

Maybe this will help. Using the pitchbend or modulation wheel while recording is sometimes difficult because it is hard to get the bend or mod exactly the way you want it and play your part at the same time. Try this. Record your midi part to your satisfaction, then practice the pitchbend during playback. If both parts (performance and pitchbend) are on the same midi channel you should have no problem hearing your bend in real time during playback. You can then record the pitch bend on another track, copy and blend the midi info, or record the bend on the same track. When you bounce midi to audio make sure all controller info is on the same track or it won't show up on the audio track. Any midi controller information can be recorded on separate tracks and then blended together later. I do this often for tricky bends and mods. I'm sure this is known to many but maybe it will help a few. I often use this method on my piano sustain parts as it helps locate the sustain on/off moments when editing and cut and paste.

Copy that. Both methods are effective. If you have a controller or keyboard, it's much easier, but you can do it in PRV as Greg shows.
Bear in mind that some samplers/patches may not respond to pitch bend.

And it helps if the amount the of the pitch bend is adjustable, as mine is, thank goodness.

Thanks to Robert B for that tip.  I had never added pitch bend through MIDI before and just spent some time feeling stupid trying to use pitch bend on a Garritan Pocket Orchestra oboe and going nowhere.   I think I read that SONAR intelligently populates the controller menus and dialogs according to what each instrument/patch accepts.  So I finally realised that this particular instrument wouldn't ever do what I wanted it to do.  Now I'll need to find a substitute but I hope I've saved someone else some grief via this post.   Could have wasted decades learning to play the real instrument that doesn't need programming - hey I only wasted a few hours!!!

Also Garritan doesn't use general MIDI mapping for Controller Codes.  check the manual for GPO to verify which controller codes affect what type of parameters for garritan.  for example, IIRC GPO uses CC 1 to control volume instead of CC7

ALSO for GPO, you need to disable this function (which is on by default) Options->Project->MIDI Out->Zero Controllers When Play Stops
