Tempo match an MP3

Is there a way to import an mp3 and the tempo match the mp3 track? Or do I have to time the MP3 and change my tempo to that time before importing?

    Hi there Brian

You'll have to match the tempo in MC to that of the mp3.

Mixmeister BPM Analyzer is a great piece of free software that will analyse your mp3 file and give you a very accurate reading of its tempo, expressed in bpm (beats per minute).

Click on the following link to download it: http://www.mixmeister.com/bpmanalyzer/bpmanalyzer.asp

    Hope that helps

I'm glad you posted this question, Brian, so Steve could post that link. I've been trying to use the formula for calculating BPMs of songs on some old audio tracks I have, but math is not my forte. This should make it easier to add some MIDI to my old songs.
    Thanks, Steve.

Sorry, I could have posted that link a long time ago if I had known you needed it! I've used that program for almost as long as I've used Sonar!

You probably did, Reece, but I didn't think I would be adding things to old songs back then.

I downloaded the program...thanks Steve for posting the link.

I have a downloading question. This program was a zip file. For some reason, it will only allow me to save the file in a temporay download folder under Opera. I want to save it in my downloads folder. As soon as I click on another folder or directory, I lose the option to extract the files. Is this just an opera thing? I should be able to extract the files wherever I want?????

Oh and while I'm on computer topics, I tried to add a picture in my avatar and it wouldn't work. I'm sure I added the link correctly. So, if someone could explain how to do this, that would be great.

    Thanks.

Your avatar image has to be a maximum of 145 x 145 pixels and less than 10KB in size.

Don't forget to click on Apply at the bottom of your Profile Page once it says its uploaded successfully Annette.

What are you using to extract the zip files with?

I must do doing something wrong then. First it was a jpeg and it said that wasn't allowed (although they list jpg???). So I saved it as a gif file. I just checked and the picture is 5.54kb. The size is 83 x 122 pixels. So, I'll try it again I guess. I'm sure I hit apply.

Well that was weird. In the space where it says use your photo as avatar, there was a picture at the end and sure enough the picture I wanted was there. So, I just highlighted the address it gave me as the url and it worked. Is that how it's normally done?

Annette, where is the image stored - is it on a web site or on your hard drive?

It's on my hard drive. When I found the little picture icon, I clicked on it and there was the picture with a cakewalk url. So I just copied that and it showed up. So I don't why it didn't work the first time.

Kind of like the cat chasing it's tail. Or, everything comes full circle????

If you click in the radio dial next to Upload my picture (will replace the existing one) and then click on the link itself, another window will open.

Just use the 'Browse' button to go straight to the image on your PC, then click OK and then Apply at the bottom your profile page.

I use the excellent, and free Paint.net to edit my images to use as my avatar Annette. It quickly lets you resize the image to 145 x 145 and then when you choose to save it, there's a slider to dial in the size of the file it will create - neat, and quicker than my PhotoShop for sure!
