I can't get mc4 to recognize any incoming signal. I'm running Vista Home Premium w/ factory Realtek HD Audio SndTDriverV32 sound card. I'm trying to record an acoustic guitar using a De Armond 240 portable pickup run through a Realistic battery operated 4 mic mixer into the LR inputs on the back of my pc (owner's manual says I have to use these inputs for recording). After setting up for audio recording per the instructions, I try to test the incoming signal via the ARM and get nothing. My input on mc4 is set for the left channel of the sound card. I have even tested the input using a headset microphone and still get nothing. Suggestions?

Your computer's soundcard is really not designed to work well with the pro level recording software packages like MC4. There's a few people here who can probably help you with the audio stuff. In the long run, you will probably want to upgrade to a better sound card ( don't buy a Soundblaster card) so that you can record easily and without problems.

Thats right Herb, when I started a couple of months ago I had nothing but trouble with Soundblaster. The M-Audio works great for me. Alan

In MC, 'options>audio' find the driver mode and change it to MME. Close MC and re-open it. Let the Wave Profiler run. Make sure the mixer is working, maybe by plugging it into a stereo system. Check the Vista mixer that the inputs are enabled. Try recording again. P.S. If the mixer has stereo outputs and you plug both the outputs into the sound card, you can record the track as a stereo track (not just left) or record it on 2 different tracks (1 track with left input, the other with right input). This could allow you to add different effects to each track for some cool sounds.

Welcome, musicdreamer. Definitely start with Greg's suggestions. Also verify that the mixer is in fact sending your signal to the left input of the computer. If it's going only to the right, but you are recording the left, you will get no sound.

Thanks Greg. Don't know its limitations, I'll give it a spin after work tonight. You need bendy notes when try to blues it up a bit. Trying Thanks again Alan
