Complete noob question

Ok I don't pretent to be too smart, but I can't get this. I record everything from the previous track as well as what I'm trying to get. (i.e. track 2 records the vocals I'm trying to record as well at track 1 with guitar so I get both on track 2) It's getting frustrating. Thanks for all help.

    Welcome.

You'll need to post some more info on your setup.

What soundcard, mic pre's (if any) etc before anyone can help you.

    Describe your signal chain.
What verison of SONAR are you one.
    What are your I O settings on track 1 & 2.

    Home studio 4
    Stereo line in
    output to headphones
Direct plug in for guitar too.
Not sure of the sound card.
I'm just starting this whole thing and thought I'd test it all before upgrading. Hope this helps.

Oh the in/out is Sterio line in and whatever i use as an out is still does it. It records the metronone as well. Seems to record whatever is going through the headphones.

go to the home studio forum. This is Studio and producer forum, not home studio.
But turn off what you hear and make sure your inputs are correctly set up. you need to turn it off, i cant reach over and do it for you. do what Dcasle said allot earlier.

open the control panel for your soundblaster and under record options uncheck "what you hear"
