P5 V2 outputs

hello. can someone explain to me how outputs work in p5? for example. I want to output say bass which is on track 1 to cubase via rewire. don't matter what i select for midi channel, it still keeps sending the whole mix to that channel in cubase. In cubase under inputs for the track i have 16 channels which are "project 5 version2 chan1" to 16. same for the outputs. where do i set these up in p5 and how do i rename them. i have read the help and searched for various tuts, but no luck, hence my post. if someone could start me in the right direction, will help me understand how routing in p5 actually works. thanks very much.

In the audio dialog, under other there's rewire outputs, set this to how many you want. Remember to add your aux busses and master i.e. if you want 16 outs set it to 21.

thanks for reply. how do i add aux, master etc and why do i need to set it to 21 for 16 outs? another thing i cannot work out is how to assign an output a midi number. ie, in cubase if i rewire i can add a midi channel and assign a channel for that track and send the output to it via rewire. all i get at the moment is loads of in & out combinations which whatever channel i select it outputs the whole song and not the individual midi track? thanks

p5 always makes the first 6 (? 3x stereo, 2 aux + 1 master for a stereo-out interface, add extra stereo pair for each physical out after that) rewire channels, then a stereo pair for each track thereafter; i think layers in tracks might also count? i just have it set to 64 (max) then once rewired, delete the unused ones in the host

    list of stuff

thanks for that. so, p5 organises it outputs in stereo pairs? so how do i setup say 8 tracks in p5 which i then want to mix in cubase? and add tracks using p5 instruments? thanks

made some progress with your help. however, if i add aux bus it dosen't appear in aux window.i still only see 4 nus routes. is this normal? also if i add 21 under the other option in the audio settings, it always gives me blue screen. just 21. also, i have in the 4 aux bus window, master and master2. is that correct to be there? phew. many thanks.

You can create more than 4 'returns' in the Aux/Master/Tempo Pane, and those will be visible. However, you're still limted to 4 Aux 'sends' per-track in the Track Inspector. Right-click on a track's Aux X Send control to shift it towards a newly-created buss return.

also if i add 21 under the other option in the audio settings, it always gives me blue screen. just 21.
I can't help you there. It sounds like some sort of mismatch between available and actual outputs, but I've never seen that happen myself.

also, i have in the 4 aux bus window, master and master2. is that correct to be there?
In your own configuration, probably yes. It will depend on the number of 'master' outputs exposed by your soundcard. Others will see a single master output; still others will have three; I happen to have 16 master outputs available. When your soundcard is detected by Project5, the number of master outs is configured, and it can't be changed by the end user.

The 'formula' to determine which ReWire outputs are which for a particular system, in order of appearance:
The number of Master Outputs + the number of Aux (return) Busses + the number of tracks in a project.

In your case, the first two ReWire slots are your Master Outs, the next four are Aux Busses (assuming the default 4), and that's followed by your tracks. Track#1 would be Output#7 from ReWire's perspective. If you add a fifth Aux Buss, Track#1 would shift to ReWire Output#8.
