I doubt they'll kill P5 and this forum. It is more likely they'll just not upgrade it and let it linger. It is not like there is a big overhead here. If they start giving P5 away with other purchases, you'll know, but then they'll have to leave the forum up for newbies.

Not only that: We will all cease to exist, and our heirs will be asked to pay back Cakewalk for the money they spent on web hosting.

However, today I heard from a reliable source, whose lips were donut-frosted, that Cakewalk is hopeful to pull a little cash for P5 development out of the $700B bailout.

Okay, I made that part up. Well, both parts.

Nobody really reads those EULA (end user license agreements) before they open/install software, now do they?

The 1st clue should have been the mention of the Mayan calendar in paragraph 3.

It seems to me that, if CW decides to axe P5, it would be in their best interest to keep the forum going as a means of providing peer-to-peer support in lieu of no official customer support. It would reflect better on the company if they were able to answer user problems/questions with "sorry, we no longer offer support for P5, but we do offer a P2P forum that can help you", rather than "sorry, figure it out for yourself (or buy Sonar)."

Sure. Low maintenance, and little overhead, especially with Project5 available as a download. As long as people keep posting to a forum, it maintains the illusion of an active product, and keeps whatever dollars involved flowing or trickling in. Someone has mentioned the Guitar Tracks forum in a parallel light. Three years plus without an official 'peep'.

Whatever the reality is, it makes perfect business sense to keep the status quo. Project5.com could possibly fade away, however. There's precedent for it to be a candidate for a complete makeover. And, after all, how long has it been since that particular site was updated? A year & and half? You can still get z3ta+ for $79 there.

I can go with that - revenue is revenue, even if it's not big revenue. I'm trying to remember the last time I even accidentally went to project5.com, and I can't. There is no draw - it's about as entertaining as watching paint dry.

I never liked the project5 site. I always thought the forum itself, with all of the user submitted info, and tracks where good enough to help draw interest in Project 5.

Its a better example to showcase project5's potential.
